World Snooker championship.

I've heard, during commentary, mention of different types of chalk now being used. Sounds like this new creation doesn't mark the balls or the table and some were blaming the 'old' chalk for poor shots. How sophisticated this game has become. Can someone explain this development?

There's some scientific titanium chalk. Around 25-100 per piece. It's round rather than square. It's supposed to eradicate kicks and not powder off on the table or mark the balls.
Ronnie's too poor to buy it.

It's causing some grief too.

Wasn't expecting that from O'Sullivan. Yes, he's had cue/tip/ferrule issues but he got absolutely battered and you have to wonder how much his heart is in it anymore - here at least when he can earn fortunes in China and elsewhere.

I couldn't be bothered to watch a cheat winning like that and turned off. But no doubt the Chinese audience won't care.

Wasn't sure what you were referring to at first, but now realise that this young Chinese whippersnapper was involved in some dodgy dealings. Betting wasn't it? Anyway, he looks very good.
Thanks AS, btw, for explaining the chalk issue.

Yes, he admitted to betting on games but also colluding to alter the results of matches! Pretty crazy that he's there as though it's all fine a year later.
I think there's a major power shift towards China in snooker. Tens of millions play and the matches are broadcast on State TV when there's a Chinese player. Imagine the audience.
The Crucible will go soon enough.
Trump and O'Sullivan have both moved to Hong Kong I believe. Probably says it all really.
The days of UK dominance are over (with a touch of Ireland) but it feels like it will be pretty boring to watch a load of Chinese players battling it out.
Of everyone I hope it's not this Chinese player that wins. I never took to Trump but he's kind of won me over as he's got a bit older.

Yes, the Chinese are becoming very strong in snooker. Bit like gymnastics and table tennis.

I'll be supporting Trump now, although he's not feisty enough for me. Prefer a Luca Brecel type of player. Bit of flair.

Everyone in Britain rooting for Williams. Except Barry Hearn and many restaurant owners.
At school they kept on about cheats not prospering,i'm going back there with a shovel digging them up and telling them they are *******wrong. Should have been a life ban.

Frankly my dears, I don't give a damn about what Zhao Xintong may have done in an alleged betting misdemeanor. He wasn't a cheat and certainly didn't profit from the incident. So, he placed a bet when he should not and he's been punished for it. Move on.

The fact is he's playing some fabulous snooker and although I would prefer Mark Williams to win the competition, I am enthralled by the quality of the young Chinese lad's play. He looks to be well on top, but there's still a long way to go.

It wasn't a misdemeanor really. They were manipulating matches. But I agree that he's a good player. How can I even trust the result of any of the matches however? For all I know, everyone could have been paid off.

Unde the rules he was compliant in a betting scam, under the rules ANY knowledged of such by a player is obviously an offence. He did not Maybe commit an offence he was GUILTY.

OK, not the right word, but I did write alleged.

I understand what you mean about match results generally though. Are you having a flutter on the Final? My tip is that you should put a big wedge on Palace to win.

I put twenty at 20-1 in January! I am also a bit of a wuss, so did it each way. It won't be a lot but it will be something.
The guy admitted to what he did in return for a reduced ban. I think they could have been a bit cleverer and had the ban until the beginning of next season.
But coming back from an admitted cheating ban and immediately winning the World Championship seems a bit silly. A couple of tournaments next season and I doubt anyone would have minded after a while. It doesn't look good for the sport at all.
