The last times England were any good was with Alf Ramsey, El Tel and Sir Gareth Southgate. I don't blame Tuchel or anyone else for doing the job but it's the wrong decision by the FA.

That's a bit harsh on the Italia 90 team which was only a kick or two (and an agile goalkeeper) from a World Cup final.

I also thought England were progressing well under Hoddle until he said "them fings" leading to his removal and under Sven (mainly early on eg the Germany 1-5 period).

Actually forgot Hoddle! Hilariously. He was quite good. I was going to say the best foreign manager was Sven. But England have only really done well with English managers.

Cheerful Charlie Capello only lost 6 out of 42 games. Unfortunately they tended to be important ones.

There is a certain wry amusement to the fact that despite all the advanced analytics and specialist tactical advisers the supposed best players available from the best league in the world can't find a way to beat a team who set up to defend.
Then all the pundits shrug and explain how difficult it is to get past these fiendish tactics.

The other day I complained about Pickford and the defenders dicking around with the ball in the penalty area and predicted that the opposition would rob them of possession if they weren't more careful.

I guess the Scots were listening because they decided if it good enough for England... 😀

Whoever decided on the new qualifying format is a genius. Instead of the Scots going into their last game needing to get something (and failing) now the agony has been prolonged until Sunday night. I am really hoping that it goes down to the wire with the Scots in the last qualifying place needing another team not to score and then in injury time.....

As it stands Brazil are due to meet Japan that will not be an easy game for them.

I think they’ve got a lot of pace and movement as well, I think they’ll wipe the floor with potters Sweden and Brazil will have dodged a bullet because Japan are too good for a third place finish

I have said to my colleagues, in this World Cup we're simply watching games that should have been qualifying games rather than part of the tournament.

A mate texted me to say he was in a pub to watch Scotland and it was full of shouting, screaming women who by half-time were engrossed in their phones while the blokes just swore at the telly.
Same thing happened in my house.

Pretty much how it is south of the border, a lot of women who don’t usually give football a second thought(apart from nag their husbands about it) jump on the bandwagon and deck themselves and their kids out in cheap Asda’s St George cross tat and start screaming at the tv and make out they’re interested 🤣
