Hughes? A bit of Willo-ery: he was the first British player to move on a Bosman.

And there was Kevin Muscat of course. Unfortunately, getting stuck in was just about all he did... whether the oppo player had the ball or not. I think he could be the most unhinged psycho the club has ever fielded.

Billy Whitehurst must be in the running.
Hughes isn't a dirty player, but pound for pound he always gives a very good physical account of himself. I am sure the opposition changing room always discusses the amount of 'WILL'full damage that's been inflicted on some individuals. Typical Hughes yellow card on Sunday together with also having a great game.
Muscat was the dirtiest player I ever saw in over 50 years of watching football, and I've seen the likes of Ron Harris, Norman Hunter and Tommy Smith.
Muscat would continually go over the ball in tackles.
I was surprised Coppell used to play Muscat for Palace as he himself had his career ended by a bad tackle .
Hughes is pretty tame in comparison to Muscat and I don't think he goes out to deliberately injure players.
Kellard was a tough player, but had ability too.
Billy Gilbert and Peter Nicholas could be nasty.
I recall sitting behind Malcolm Allison and Terry Venables at a youth game many years ago when Gilbert and Nicholas were diving into tackles.
Allison and Venables seemed to find it vaguely amusing and possibly encouraging that the youngsters had the steel to make it in the professional game.

If you watch him during the game, he is constantly talking to the other players…either encouraging them or reminding them to focus. He is definitely a leader and adds that quality to the team.

I must admit when we signed him I was meh! Not too bothered. He was a wonder kid who seemed to have lost his way. But he has morphed into a really good pressing aggressive midfielder. He rolls his sleeves up and gets on with the dirty work, giving the ball to the play makers and letting them express themselves. He never gives anything other than 100%. And judging from the training videos he's a great guy to have around.
