Why Parish shouldn’t resign!

Strange as it may seem to some, I have noticed on a number of social media platforms, where videos of Palace and SP appear, how many fans from other clubs comment how much they wished they had a Chairman like ours; open, honest opinions, integrity and passion (for the club) are words frequently used. I think that says a lot about how he appears to those a bit further removed from all the drama than us.

As the OP said, be careful what you wish for - there are more Forest fatmen types out there than there are Steve Parishes
In the current circumstances I have to say that Becky got it absolutely right. Well done old girl.

This thread is ill conceived and, whoever is moderating now should pull the plug.

Why is the thread ill conceived? Parish comes in for a lot of stick in almost every thread when we lose a game. The point of the thread was to gauge opinion if people thought that Parish should resign his position of chairman.
It is not my opinion that he should but other poster are welcome to have their say!

Threads like this are expected after every bad performance or lose. It's very simple really, if we win Glasner gets all the plaudits, if we lose it's Parish's fault for some reason or the other.
The reality is, we are a club that has been in administration twice, now on the up and defying the odds against the mega rich clubs. We are never going to be allowed to join the big 6, as they have imposed financial rules to make it near impossible.
Most fans support Palace as it's their local club and have been supporting for years, just enjoy the good times, as the bad times can return very quickly.

The second administration was worse because we were 24hrs from liquidation.

I am reminded of 'Snakes and Ladders'.
I believe I am being realistic by opining that the success in 2025 simply cannot be sustained due to the fact that we are not a traditional powerhouse.
Our model is to acquire young promising players and when they are sought after are sold season-on-season.For some clubs the trajectory is 'South' rather than 'North' EG Southampton and Wolves.
I did conclude that those who believed that we could attain a top 6 finish this season were being somewhat fanciful.
Perhaps on this matter I don't possess a clarity of thought !

We dreamt about an FA cup win.
It happened. Probably dreamt we could add the community shield. It happened.
Never give up the dream willo 👍

At the beginning of the season I said we would finish 12th and that OG would be off once his contract expired. I also suggested that an 8th place finish would show a marked sign of progress. As for Europe, thus far it has proven our unpreparedness.
Unless the purse strings are loosened in January and some genuine back up is brought in I'm sticking with 12th place.

if we want to blame any thing we should look at FIFA and there greedy money grabbing rules for the comps that our players are forced to play ,needless endless fixtures which just go to line there pockets whether its the world cup or european games sadly results will get worse before they get better 🙁

Are we better than Villa (currently 3rd) when our first team is available?
I would contend yes.
Have we got a better squad than Villa to sustain performances over a whole season?
I would suggest no.

Can we bridge the gap in the squad to allow us to be where Villa sit in the table?
Realistically I would say no and it may be that they will be overtaken in time by Chelsea and/or Liverpool.
It's the nature of how the Premier League is set up.

I'm not advocating for Parish to leave as he has been great for us.
Nonetheless, I can't see how we can progress much further with the current set up.

So mid table it is hopefully with a manager like Glasner who sees the cups as an opportunity to win something as opposed to a manager like Hodgson who sees the cups as an inconvenience and an opportunity to rest players.

Prior to the season in conversations outside of HOL, I also opined about a 12th place finish and there was some surprise that I was not being more positive about our prospects.
Apropos Glasner, I am not expecting him to remain at the club beyond the expiration of his contract and this appears to be the 'Mood music' at present. We will commence next season with a new manager and some of our regular players at 'Pastures new'.

Parish has delivered safety and our first 2 major trophies. He’s a genuine Palace fan. I heard Big Sam talking about him yesterday when he was manager. We were struggling to stay up and had a poor performance against Sunderland. Parish was furious and asked Sam if he could speak to the players. Sam agreed and Parish have them a passionate and angry speech and showed that he was more than a chairman. Sam reckons we have a good un.
As for his record, he’s taken us to the PL and kept us there. We’ve won silverware and are still progressing as a club. Glasner may be the best manager we’ve ever had, but Parish is the best chairman we’ve had and will be with us long after Glasner has gone on to bigger things.

If the few numpties who want Parish gone have they got a replacement in mind. Good luck with finding another true fan with only the clubs best interests at heart and can deliver the level of success we have had under his tenure.
I despair some times at people who want heads to roll after a couple of bad results, wake up and smell the coffee

When Steve Parish leaves the club, his tenure will not be judged by his mistakes. It will recognize the fact that he took an also ran Championship club from administration to an enviable position in the Premier League, along with winning the club's first major silverware.

Previously, our success at the top level had been fleeting and never sustained. Most of our history was spent in the lower leagues.

We might all wish for better things season on season, but success comes with its own problems. Bigger clubs want your best players, and you have to play a lot more games. It's hard to keep on an upward trajectory.

Parish might frustrate us with his apparent caution in the transfer windows but that model has done well so far. Many clubs of equal or greater standing have risen only to plummet down the leagues due to financial mismanagement because of big ambitions ruling over good sense.
Finishing mid table might be boring but it is better than nose diving into League one and spending a decade getting back.

We still have plenty to play for this season and hopefully we can get a few signings in January.
Glasner will stay or go, but Parish will do what he thinks is best for the club, not Oliver Glasner.

Hear, Hear 👍

I will add that in relation to "Apparent Caution", Steve Parish is of course the managing partner, however there are 3 other shareholders and Parish has to steer the ship through agreed financial lanes somewhat narrower than those higher up the 'Food chain'.

Most fans take a short term view - did we win? Did we lose? Will we win? Will we lose? I am much the same as anyone else in that respect. But I also recognise that our first 11 and, yes, the squad too, has got incrementally stronger year on year. Cast you mind back to the promotion winning team and compare it with now, yes we had some good players then, but the difference is mind blowing. We can (just about) field two teams of full internationals, a decade ago we had one or two players at that level. Sustaining that sort of progress in the future is going to be very difficult but not impossible. It’s frustrating, we all want to see a great leap Forward but the steady incremental improvement approach has done OK so far.

To answer the thread - Parish should not resign and we are lucky to have had him at the helm for the past decade.

I find it incredible that some people want Parish to step aside. A succesful season used to be retaining our status in the EPL. Nothing else mattered as long as we didn't get relegated. Now withing 12 months we have an FA Cup and Community Shield with our name on it, plus we are playing in Europe for the first time ever.

It's very difficult to plan for a season that includes playing european football. This is a competition that we only qualified for at the end of May, yet we are expected to be oven ready for it 3 months later. It takes a bit more planning than that. I remember the first transfer window in 2013 when Holloway was like a boy in a sweet shop. We ended up with loads of players on our books and with the exception of one or two that did a job the rest were nowhere near good enough.

I am happy to prioritise another cup run with a mid table finish. That will sometimes come at a cost when the fixtures start to pile up. You only need to be 10% off your game in this division and a Leeds result will happen.

If all else fails and you start to get dragged into the Willo doom and gloom remember we went on our incredible run last season having lost to Newcastle and Man City, conceding 10 goals.
