Where the F**K was all this money in the summer!

As per normal we leave it to last day, and pray things happen.

To me it seems absurdly chaotic.

We are going to end up as a team of individuals / misfits. Reminds me of when we got promoted and signed something like 15+ players.

It takes time to gel a team which is why you buy more players in the summer. Winter transfer window is for minor amendments not wholesale changes.

We don't have the luxury of having games to gel the team and bed in players.

Once again shambolic planning.

I would mostly agree.

But I also think that Parish has been put into a difficult position by Glasner.

As someone else said. Its very West Ham ish in terms of players coming in... And that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Id rather we were going all out for that Hayden Hackney and the other creams of the championship or an exciting young player from abroad.

Im not totally against JSL but im hoping Parish eventually comes out and says it was nowhere near 48M and that the reporters got it wrong.

We went from bringing in players from the championship like Eze, Olise, Geuhi, Wharton, Esse to now 2 players that cant get into the Wolves or Everton sides.

We did, but they were coming in to a team which had some very impressive leaders in it. Ward, Tomkins, and McArthur come to mind and doubtless there were others. Guehi himself became a leader and captain very quickly.

I do not think the same core of leaders exists in the current group and I am not sure the same approach would work.

100%.

What is going on - makes zero sense to be on a spending spree in this window.

and I don’t se anyone of them as a “typical Palace” signing.
and where is the replacement for Marc!
Re Marc replacement, presumably the new manager doesn't use a back 3 and Lacroix and Richards are deemed enough with Riad and Canvot as back up. There's also Let a for the rest of this season at least. We can always buy another CB in the Summer if Lerma leaves,as expected.

I think the whole mess with Textor selling his shares had a massive impact on our summer transfers. Couple this with the very late sale of Eze it left us no time to recruit properly. That said when has a big money signing ever worked out for us?

No.

It had nothing to do with it.

SP himself said he was doing it all and don't forget he was messing about with UEFA stuff as well.

It's again all on him no other club would put up with him it's become to big for him and he has only held that position due to the craftiness of his shares plus the two main Americans have no interest or understanding.

Everything is so slow at this club.

It was very clear that Eze & Guehi was going Spurs/Arsenal just like Liverpool had been speaking to the club at start of window and official bit for Eze from Spurs was mid Aug so plenty of time we drag things out.

I think we should have brought an experienced CB in on loan.

I realise that most of transfer clickbait is just that, but if you look at all the CB's we have been linked with they were all from Europe, young, and hadn't played in the EPL.

Apparently a late loan bid for Pinnock from Brentford was considered, but of course didn't happen.

I was discussing this topic yesterday.

If you look at how Brighton is run, they are owned by a super rich individual that is as big a fan of that club as Parish is of Palace.

But Bloom hires in top talent to run the club on his behalf. In this instance, Paul Barber. Now Barber isn't everyone's cup of tea among the Brighton support, but he gets things done.

I think Parish is a very clever guy, but he tries to do too much himself.

We also need a better goal return.
Mateta is no longer the answer & we are not getting goals from midfield.
That’s a good point, when you look at other teams, goals are spread around the team, but our midfield is hapless in that area, summed up by hughesey’s efforts v Forest 🤣 Adam Wharton will play the rest of his career without scoring and Lerma’s too defensive minded

I agree the squad looks light on centre backs if we continue playing three at the back. Problem with saying we should have got an experienced centre back on loan is who and why would a club loan out a premier Legaue centre back to us?

I found the window underwhelming.
Yes, money was spent but not necessarily in priority areas.

At the beginning of the window many on here saw the priorities being a RWB (as it had been all season) and an experienced centre back as Guehi was to be sold.
Neither area has been addressed.
I also saw a gap for a left sided attacking player of pace and power, but recognise that some on here think there's no need for this.

What we've ended up with is no RWB, no centre back and we now have 3 players in Sarr, Johnson and Guessand who all favour the right hand side.
Sure, they can play on the left but are not natural fits there.

To balance this I recognise priorities changed with Mateta wanting to leave so clearly a centre forward was required and this has been addressed with Larsen.

As to the assumption that we have not addressed the RWB and Centre Back areas because Parish has already selected a new manager who won't play wing backs or 3 centre backs , that's a big assumption and can only be seen as speculation.

I wonder that the criteria is for turning the Guessand deal into a permanent one - does he have to start a certain number of games?

Well, West Ham managed to get one.

And apparently we were looking at Pinnock from Brentford. I don't know why that wasn't pursued, it's possible Brentford wanted a perm transfer rather than a loan.

When you look at the total we spend just over more for incoming then selling those 2 players.

Guehi we got around 15m max because Chelsea was to receive 20-25% of the 20m City paid.

Eze 60m going upto 65m with addons.

Players coming in BJ (35m) - Pino (25m) - Canvot (20m) these don't include the clauses for likes of Uche & Gussand [we threw away 2-5m on Sosa]
A couple of websites that purport to show these things accurately say much the same as you, except they think we covered the small cost for sosa by getting some pennies for Édouard and Ebiowei, although how precise these sites are is anyone's guess.

They have palace at -£48m for the season after yesterday. If course, if Mateta had left that would have been about -£13m or so. That's all before any fee to sign Guessand or McNeill permanently.

So, a net spend of £48m overall maybe doesn't sound like that much, and of course, £13m certainly doesn't. Thing is, the accounts never seem to show a profit as a business once player wages are deducted, and it has long seemed that our transfer budget is heavily reliant on player sales.

If it's as simple as that then one thing seems certain, come summer someone worth some decent money will need to be sold to cover the outlay yesterday, and that's before we think about taking any of Guessand, Uche, or making any new signings.

You are talking like Glasner will still be here
