When were we last this good ?

I don’t know… but I love this squad as much as I did the 1991 team and I didn’t think I would ever say that about any side.
They posed the question on the radio, is this our best ever team?
The 1991 team FINISHED 3rd after losing a cup final replay. If this team can finish 3rd or better 😳after winning the FA Cup, they’ll be our greatest ever team, but until then it’s still the 1991 team for me, BUT it’s certainly an enjoyable ride at the moment however this season pans out

It's apples and oranges. Football isn't really still the same game. If today's team played the 1991 team (in their prime) I dunno...I feel like today's team wins it. There was something special about the 1991 team that I feel it'd be blasphemous not to wax lyrical over, but man for man...I find it difficult. Can we opt to say they were both our best eras but in two very different worlds?

It's a curious thought that we're as far removed from 1991 as 1991 was from 1957 when football was certainly a different game.

If we played PSG, Real Madrid anyone, I’d fancy us.

2 wins over the Prem champions plus a win over Citeh.........

2nd in the Prem Table.

We are the only undefeated team left in the Prem.

Even the teams you mention would need to bring their A game, and some good Luck.....to do us over.
And then those crooks at UEFA have us playing against minnows.

With the help of Revd Sands I’ve looked at our last record unbeaten run and reckon I was at 14 or 15 of them including memorable away days at Birmingham, Bristol, Derby and Preston. The only ones I definitely missed were trips to Carlisle, Huddersfield and Blackburn. That was such a great season and a pretty good team. Perhaps we’ve had better teams since but none that gave me that youthful away day buzz - a ‘football special’ train to Portsmouth takes some beating!

I hesitate to mention it, but that run finished away at Everton who we play in a couple of weeks.

Wouldn’t it be great if we win the Conference to qualify for Europa League but still don’t take it up because we finish in a Champions League spot?!!! And then take a UEFAMAFIA banner to our first CL game! 😂

Not getting carried away just dreaming.

Harold McMillan: "You've never had it so good." The 91 side was as Sir Steve has admitted bang average in many aspects but good at what they did, which was beat up the oppo, punt it long on to Brighty's bonce for the on-running Wrighty to do his magic. Our 3rd position said more about the poor quality of English football post-Heysel than how good we were - though Gray and Thomas were an amazing duo, and Wrighty was just Wrighty - 3rd place now would be a greater achievement, but we need to see where we are in May cos statistically 91 is our best side, but by the end of this season there's a good chance the current squad will surpass it - a top six finish and a European trophy and we can proclaim this team as our best ever, but it depends on what they achieve.
