A manager who knows the Premier League and brings in players he knows can cope with it’s physical demands.
At the back- We must keep Deano, Max, Richards, Jaydee, T and Chadi.
Get as much money as we can for Muñoz and reinvest in a replacement RWB.
Midfield - keeping Wharton is crucial. But we must add some power and goals to the midfield (if West Ham go down Fernandez would be a brilliant signing - but there are plenty cheaper alternatives who would be an upgrade on our current midfield options) we should keep Hughes as a backup player and for his leadership qualities and to provide some continuity. Lerma and Kamada need replacing and hopefully Doucoure can return.
Attack - we need to add someone who can beat a player and play direct (A Wilf/Bolasie type who can make something happen) ideally who can also whip in a good cross for JSL - who we will be stuck with now - so will have to play to his strengths. Sadly a JP replacement (no easy feat) will need to be found and hopefully a more mobile physical nuisance can come in if Nketiah is sold - although a different manager might see him be more interested in staying.
So, a lot of work to be done for the new Manager - but we do have the nucleus of a good squad AND will generate some funds from the sale of JP and Muñoz.
I don’t think Uche will stay and it’s a shame we can’t get our money back for Brennan under the trade descriptions act!
Good morning "Elphers", literally you took the words out of my mouth. I endured last nights spectacle from afar on holiday on a bad link in a bar and even though my gloomy prediction of 0-2 was only 50% correct, namely our zero, as soon as I saw the midflield combo the chances that the zero would happen became almost certain. With the Hughes/Lerma axis quite honestly the only chance to score is via a set-piece and even that is unlikely because only Wharton/Kamada are capable of a decent delivery unless Richards/Lerma launch 40 metre throw-ins!!
So:-
Defence? Agreed
Midfield. Like him or not, Kamada seems to be important to our current play patterns. With him gone, a creative replacement is urgently needed. Funds?? The decision is driven by what style the new trainer favours, not forgetting, the abilty to switch patterns defines successful teams. Apart from that and keeping Wharton, I cannot see where we strengthen within a budget. In the background there is the Ozoh situation. Good enough? Any other even close to stepping up and i don't really mean Devenny.
Attack. Actually we are quite overloaded but clearly the current bath are too similar for Glasners formation and also in Johnson, Pino not really suited. Question, as good footballers why can't they adapt?? So, in summary if Mateta is sold we should use the funds, if available for a a central power player, which, obviously is easier said than done. Or, does Nketiah suddenly become a sharp finisher?? On the basis of his career to date, i doubt it.
Glasners comments last night were so true but not easily solvable, namely they all tried their best but there weren't enough players in the oppo box, we weren't clinical enough (assuming players were in the box), crosses weren't accurate enough and set-plays weren't delivered accurately. Ergo, see above!!!
