What Do We Need Next Season

Of course what we need and what we get are not the same thing.

It will depend on:

Who the new manager is and what tactics he will play . How many players we lose and were they key to the team.

Keepers:
I think we are fine with 1st choice and backup.

Defenders:
Clyne has been a great servant but we need to replace him. We need a proper understudy for both Mitchell and Munoz I don't think any of the youngsters have proved themselves yet. I don't think we need any more centre halves unless a bargain is available.

Midfield
Kamada, Wharton and Lerma may go. Even if they don't we need a ball playing midfielder who can score the occasional goal, the return from our midfield has been atrocious. Ozoh may be backup to Lerma but I don't rate him as a PL midfielder.

Attack
I would sign Guessand hopefully for a lesser amount that quoted. If JPM goes we need a replacement as Eddie is unreliable and I would offload him if a decent offer came in.

Summary
If all the key players stayed then I think we just need 2 fullbacks and a midfielder.

Over to you.

A manager confirmed and in place with enough time for them to plan, have a full transfer window, and a pre-season

I know this is all fantasy for Palace, and we will probably appoint someone at 3pm on the first game of the new season

But we can hope!!!!

I can't remember how long we've needed two full backs for.

I think we are ok in defence. Cover for Munoz would be good. I think Deveney could cover for Mitchell at a push; he plays left wingback for his country.

Even if Lerma stays, the midfield will need an overhaul. At their best, Wharton, Kamada, and Hughes offer steady control but we lack energy and mobility in there. We can't run all over anyone, can't play box to box quickly, and struggle to press. Plus of course we might be left with only Wharton and Hughes on the books so we'll need reinforcements anyway. That might require selling Wharton to fund it, even if he's happy to stay for another year.

The forward line is a worry. Sarr is great, but otherwise who is reliable to make and score goals? I doubt we'll be spending big on forwards, though. We've spent so much already and won't be able to sell any of them without a big loss. The new manager must get a tune out of Johnson, Nketiah, Larsen, and Pino. I wouldn't touch Guessand with a bargepole. He's highly erratic, lacks quality, and we need the money to reshape the midfield. The make up of that midfield must be dictated by what system will help the current forwards to start producing.

2 First team quality midfielders (even if Wharton stays), an injury free Doucoure, Guessand or a replacement for Guessand and promote Imray to back up or bring one in.

I think Imray can be a solid cover for Munoz
I’d love to see that because I really like Imray having watched him at Bromley a few times, he’s definitely in the Munoz mould, but sadly I doubt he’ll be in our squad next season, another loan or a permanent move to a championship team beckons
