West Ham v Crystal Palace Match Thread

It is not the size of the wand that is important but the magic one weaves with it.

On the subject of "Wand" one hears commentators and pundits refer to a "Wand of a left foot".
One never hears "Wand of a right foot".
Said this before but my favourite was Alan Smith describing a player as having "feet like paintbrushes". Think he meant he's an artist but it sounds inconvenient for a footballer.

English wasn’t his forte in school I guess but neither was maths. Yesterday when the Chelsea keeper went off I’m sure he said they’ll go 5:4:1!

No doubt Spam fans will feel their club is superior to Palace amd should be beating us home and away every season. Well tough f,,,,,,,n luck. The tables have been turned. And of coursr we deserve everthing weve got amd their entitled fans deserve diddly squat!

I was at the match yesterday and what a crap experience it is for the Hammers' fans. it's all so corporate and soul less. The seating arrangement is crap: no sense of the crowd being together. They play recorded, sh*t version of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles that the crowd have to sing along to. In every aspect it seems that their main object is to sell beer, food and anything that will squeeze ever more money from the supporters. Horrible.

I was well proud of us. We simply did a job on them with little fuss.

Did anybody else feel that Adam was off his game? He did put in a good few passes that went to the opposition and was hooked in the second half which made me think that OG might have felt that he wasn't up to his (genius) best.

Is it just me?

First game back, Wharton just needs some time. Hopefully he is on it for liverpool

Good to see Hughes will make it to the Liverpool game he really does make a difference.

Expect him to get his card and be suspended after that game 😉

Sarr should be back as well really could do with him.

The new signings look lightweight going to take them fair bit of time.

I would love to beat Liverpool but don't see it happening a draw at best. (I really hope I end up wrong we win)

This West Ham was terrible and I am starting to see a pattern with teams around our level or below they have sort of figured us out (We are setup to play against bigger teams not ones we need to control play)
An article in today’s Observer on players who have been booked most often without getting a red card. Our own Will Hughes tops the list with 86 career yellows, 0 reds. Anyone surprised?!

86 yellows is quite magnificent, hope he never gets a red, and when he hits his century he should get a standing ovation a la cricket.

Well we have 20 fixtures left in 2025 so he's a cert to get that 100 up!

Yet I don't think anyone would describe him as 'dirty', would they.

Any news on Pino's injury?
I’ve been searching and seen nothing yet. This is a big moment, if he needs an op it’s massive.
Good news is Sarr should be back now

Add in a superb cameo from Nketiah against WHU.

Uche and Esse hopefully working this week on tactics / positioning. By October / November we could have an exciting attack again

Haven’t watched the replay to see what others where doing so Not sure if he was the only one ball watching , but Adam was just in front of him and goal side , and when when Bowen headed the ball was watching him and had a “ oh sh%* , when did he make that run , maybe I should have been ….” Look in his face .

If I’m correct and his initials were RE , he would have been hauled off ….
True. To be fair Glasner did criticise him in his interview and, importantly, Wharton criticised himself unprompted in his. I think Mateta was at fault again also.

Glasner said they would focus on it this week.

Certainly in his time at Palace most of his cards come under the "taking one for the team" related fouls to stop the opposition breaking through. He rarely get's booked for a needless foul such as time wasting, arguing back to the referee or dissent.

We're usually pretty good on those sorts of cards. As Brian Clough used to say - if you don't argue with refs they're more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt so if you're going to get a card then make it count. Good advice when he had Larry Lloyd and Kenny Burns in his team but the bar was also a lot higher in his day and it was pre- Man U/Arsenal preeminence when surrounding the ref became the expected reaction.
