Measuring the success in terms of outcomes is relative.
Did we have a good outcome from defeating Hitler? Well it put us in massive debt to the US and we used up all the wealth of our empire to achieve it. Subsequently, Germany rebuilt into a modern productive country while we dwindled.
But we held up Hitler before Roosevelt actually did something and contributed to the retaking of Europe. Had we done nothing, maybe Germany might have got the bomb first, who knows.
Don't get me started on WW2.....it's all hindsight anyway so I don't want to go down that rabbit-hole, because it's just my opinion anyway and while I'm happy with where I am with it....I could also be wrong....it was 80 years ago and we all rely upon second hand stuff with lot of agendas and narratives and it's hard to pick through it.
So if we prevent Iran from getting nukes and take out a dangerous regime but at the same time create a bit of chaos and have to pay bigger bills for a while, is that a bad outcome?
It's killing a lot of people for a delay (getting the actual nuke isn't as hard as people think, the delivery system is a lot harder).....besides I'm fed up with bigger bills on behalf of foreign wars in places that we have no business in.
Do you seriously think that the Ayatollahs have any intention of serious negotiations? I seriously doubt it. They have been screwing around for years just playing for time.
Not in my view......they could have had a nuke a long time ago if they had wanted (they will now).
Trump had some serious concessions, but they were fake negotiations (which isn't good).
But Iran know that Israel can nuke them at any point (probable small nuke because of neighbours).....which at this point looks more like a possible end point if it ends badly, unless Trump invades and actually implements and backs a new regime.....obviously that is a worst case scenario and I have my fingers crossed would never happen.
It's a war of choice and opportunism.....but I think it's over-estimated what good can come from it.
Of course, Trump and the US have their own reasons for going in aside from any pretence of moral duty, but in the end, no one other than Islamists and mental health issues lefties will mourn for the Iranian regime. Whatever that clown Starmer says or does, we are beholden to the Americans. They are our allies and protectors and we have no choice but to get with the program like it or not. Protecting Israel is a valid strategic move. They are our proxy for containing Islamists in the region. I don't have to like them to know they are a powerful ally.
Obviously I'm no fan of Islam and I think most of it needs to go from Britain.....However, that's not to the extent that I want to start wars with Muslim countries.
I agree with you that Israel being there stops the chance of another Otterman empire.....which would be a serious threat to the west (which weirdly the Greens and Starmer seem to want an Islamic future for Britain).
However, I also think this Israeli government under Netty is a bunch of psychos, much like their intel agencies.
