Walter Benitez

He's pretty good but whatever attributes he possesses there's a reason he's a back up player at Crystal Palace at the age of 33.

He is what he is. A decent back up keeper. Makes some good saves but is definitely a bit of a “dodgy keeper”. He’s not good enough to be number one but equally I doubt we’d get a better back up either.

The problem with Walter is that he doesn't communicate with the backline anywhere near as effectively as Dean does. Which is not a good thing when Pierre keeps playing Three Card Monty with who will be back there so there three players are trying to figure out what the other two are doing all the while Walter is back there doing his own thing.

I kind of wonder how mediocre is Remi Matthews at this point and what is the point of keeping a player around that you just don't trust at all.

Back up goalkeepers in a nutshell.

I think as a back up Keeper he’s okay, he’s no Deano, but I wouldn’t want to be any keeper playing behind our defence at the moment

Let's face it, we've seen what happens when you have 2 1st team keepers - one of them wants out - think Guaita and Johnstone or we release one - think Butland. Walter's at about the right level for a back-up keeper who isn't going to be asked to play that many games.

I consider the flack he is getting for Besiktas' second goal a little harsh: several challenges were missed in the build up, the shot was well hit from a central position and through a crowd of bodies.

I think he is a very capable goalkeeper who is playing in a side conceding goals in one of the toughest leagues and against some of the most talented forwards in the world.

Very hard unless top 4 club to get a quality reserve keeper .Any decent keeper would want to play regularly even lower leagues. Those who want too are mostly at the end of career and want last pay day happy sitting on bench.

I can’t believe that the top top clubs haven’t come in for Henderson. Soo much better than a lot of the keepers at the top clubs.not sure I’d swap him for any of the other keepers , Allison is on the decline, donurumma has a big mistake in him and can’t see past Reyes teeth.
Think he’s a great keeper , just behind Martyn for me.
The biggest thing is how much he gets Palace. Loves Palace , whilst all the others are slipping off, he signs a new contract.
Top keeeper , top man.
Uses my mates cafe in Chislehurst , he says he’s top class.

Absolutely spot on.

I know most of us are biased and look through CPFC tinted glasses but I honestly think he is playing the best football of his career.

He came to us with supposedly a questionable hamstring (I heard this was a reason Forest didn't want/try to take him permanently). With a string of ok (good at Sheff Utd for one season) but no better than that loan stints, and a handful of games over eight or so seasons at Man Utd, the jury was out.

He didn't even walk into our first team with Super Sam Johnstone competing. I actually favoured SSJ as the Number One because - whilst I felt Henderson had a higher ceiling - SSJ made fewer mistakes based on DH's early appearances.

I am more than happy to admit that I was wrong. What a goalkeeper DH has become. Not just on the pitch but the influence and impact he has had on the club as well.

It will keep you fit lol , but maybe Deano may get the defence doing there job better. He is no.1 for a reason. But Walter at times does get himself in wrong positions more . Even the Brighton worldie standing on the edge of your box facing strong winds is a very dangerous game to play . He is a good back up

Yes he has got a touch of the Hennessey’s for poor positioning, but that’s an insult really, because he’s certainly a lot better than the statue🤣

I have more confidence that Deano would have saved both goals last night. I like Walter and think he's a good goalkeeper to have as a back up to Deano, I'm glad he is getting some games but his positioning was off last night. He has made some amazing saves this season but also he has made quite a few errors that have cost us.

While to rest of the team are responsible for putting him under pressure, he is there to be the last line of defence and we clearly have a better keeper in Henderson and need him back..
Deano without a doubt the better keeper but I still don't think he would have saved either which were down to awful defending more than Walter's positional errors. Deano has let one or two similar goals in. Excellent backup keeper though and doesn't deserve the stick that one or two of the back five probably do. Just my opinion though Mr P

Henderson the much better shot stopper. Better distribution. Both really poor from corners. Benitez slightly better than Henderson on coming for crosses. Henderson commands the area far better.

Since the start of the Lyon game we've faced 17 shots on target and conceded 11 of them. 11 goals from an xG of 5.72.

In the last two games (Besiktas and Newcastle) the opposition have scored with 100% of their shots on target.

Incredibly damning stats for a keeper. I think Benitez has been a lot worse than most realise.
