Villa v Maccabi

I expect to get frisked, by security, at the turnstiles. To be checked for illicit weapons. But, regarding the photo below, i never expected to be checked for this...........

They have actually played 5 away European fixtures since Amsterdam, couldn’t find any reports of violence. Perhaps they had something against Amsterdam or perhaps they were provoked.
The next one was against Besiktas and it was moved to Hungary who were the only country to accept hosting the match without any fans, this from todays Times. All because of what happened in Amsterdam the paper reported.

Personally I don't get what the fuss is about. Fans get banned all the time when there's been a series of problematic incidents.

Yes it's never one sided and with this current political climate it'll be something for people to jump onto a side and claim they're being unfairly treated. BUT logistically it's a hell of a lot easier to ban the away fans. If security weren't proactive then it would invite similar scenes as in Amsterdam last year where clearly both 'fans' were guilty but the easiest thing to do is stop the away fans i.e what they then did in Gent as it's about the only easily available solution to best protect both fan bases.

I've got sympathy for genuine football fans not being able to support the team. A quick scan of the Maccabi ultras checkered past however tells me it's a wise decision. They don't seem the most peaceful bunch who stick to just the footballing matters. Call me old fashioned but Flag burning, chants about raping women and children dying have no place in a football stadium (or anywhere else)... Obviously I'd back a ban if this was an away team from Palestine who had a similar history of trouble that followed them. As do I think it's sensible to monitor and ban away support from other clubs when there's been a series of problems Galatasaray, Lazio, Marseille, Legia etc

Are you gullible enough to think this is about hooligans? Do you think that pro Gaza MP would've started a petition had they drawn Galatasaray or similar?

It's about the Jews, that's it alone.

It's surely about looking to avoid dangerous situations occurring.

It obviously is about fans being Jewish. Plus an Ultras group who have a history of inflammatory behaviour. It obviously is about the match taking place in a large muslim community. To ignore those facts would be irresponsible. Like I said the easiest solution, as with many cases in football is to ban the away fans. It's not great but I can't see a better way of avoiding potential conflict.

What do you think is the best way to proceed to avoid any issues?

Turn back time and never start the mass migration of incompatible cultures who hate the UK in general and jews in particular, sadly the technology does not exist.

This is all about pandering to Islamists

Police it appropriately so that everyone is safe? Expensive unfortunately, but necessary in my opinion. When did we think it was OK for England to be unsafe for fans to travel to? It's pretty ridiculous and we shouldn't be accepting it blindly.

Your whines are getting really boring now. If you don't like this forum you are quite welcome to go elsewhere.
There are posters on here who can't post anything positive about anything. I try and contribute on a range topics including news and politics. In 20 odd years here I've never been called names as I have recently. So something ha gone wrong, as Bournemouth get a 3rd

If your posts get a thumbs up from the jew hating Steeleye might be time for reflection.

I'm not name calling though.
It's identifying rather than name calling. Do you think anti-semite is less hurty than jew hater.

I don't recall you ever pushing back on one of steeleye's posts so QED you have no problem with what he posts.

I do have a problem with his racist jew hate but it is within the bounds of what is allowed on here at the moment.

I don't think anyone thinks it's ok as this is not the norm but there is clearly more to consider for this match than the average game.

Policing it appropriately is of course the best option but isn't that what's been decided that this isn't possible.

Maybe I'm being cynical but the game will present an opportunity for two opposing groups (obviously not the majority) to look for trouble...and I believe they will find it. We'll then be inundated with videos on Twitter showing how disgusting each group has acted and it'll stoke the flames even more.

Im interested in what he posts on our kids football and cricket. And I don’t call anyone names on here. You're a moderator too?
