VAR

The 5 cm tolerance is a LiVARpool-centric policy.

Haaland was offside, i could see that without the lines. His leg was ahead of pope so only one player between him and the goal. And as he had been pushing thiaw he was then deemed to be blocking or affecting the defender from getting to the ball.

I thought it was right to let the ref have final decision on whether he was affecting play but var should've come to the decision a lot quicker.

He may have been - I couldn't tell and he and Thiaw were each holding the other. In any case the 5 cm tolerance doesn't seem to have come into it.

I have not seen the incident as I was watching games in the Vertu Trophy.
From what I gather, the final decision was based on subjectivity and when subjective judgements are made these can be the catalyst for polarised opinions and controversy.

He was more than 5cm’s behind Nick Pope so that wouldn’t have helped him.

I disagree. It looked in line to me with either Pope or Schade’ foot. It was impossible for us to tell and bear in mind we’re relying on the freeze frame taken by VAR. It certainly wasn’t ‘clear and obvious’, the guidelines required for VAR intervention. We know the freeze frame is generated by pausing the video and how many times have we seen them get that wrong? Hallands foot was onside all the while prior to the freeze frame (as can be seen from the camera angle behind the goal).

The margin of error used to be 14cm, now it is apparently 5cm…no idea why or when that changed?

It took them 6 minutes to look at that and they’ve ruled out a perfectly good goal.

VAR is just ruining the game. Not one complaint from the FA Cup weekend and it was a million times better to watch.

The freeze frame paused on the TV last night.

No way is Haalands foot offside.

Actually scrap that, Ive just realised that I’m misinterpreting the offside rule.

It’s the second last defender that’s important and in this instance that would be the goalkeeper Pope, so apologies for causing the confusion. Haaland was in an offside position, however I don’t think anyone is saving or stopping the ball going in though.

I still hate VAR though and wish it gone! 🤨

Another bad night for VAR.

And the errors are piling up.

It turns the game into a bit of a circus imo.

I see games outside the PL especially the academy, and it is a much better experience, despite any ref errors.

I really enjoy watching games without VAR. Stopped off to watch Derby v Portsmouth on the way up to watch our game at Leeds and after Macclesfield on Saturday I drove to Braintree to watch my other team (Boston United) in the National League 17:30 Kick Off. VAR ruins the spectator enjoyment and it is a delight to watch games without VAR involvement.

Exactly, VAR is s***. But it's alright when it goes your way.

I am informed (By a Chelsea supporter) that Paul Hurst has just been appointed manager.
I heard back in those 'Dark days' of that pandemic that Jonathan Van-Tam (Downing Street Press Conferences) was a supporter of Boston Utd.
