That's not what I said at all - my point was about using other's actions in the past to justify something you are doing now. 'These people did X, so they can't lecture me on Y'.

The correct extrapolation would be something like a leftist arguing that they can morally justify any poor treatment of others now, because right-wingers loved empire where some people were treated poorly.

Trump was a reaction to Obama......The US left of the 90s was far more conservative than today's US left, yet the US right roughly stayed where they were.

Obama wasn’t, by any normal definition, truly “left”! He was just of his time. Charismatic and socially responsible. He did though have the wrong colour skin for some people on the right and it was this that caused the reaction. They, of course, deny it and trot out the “lefty” garbage. I have witnessed this myself!

It took much more than just that though to result in Trump. There first had to be a Trump available and, fortunately, they don’t arrive very often.

For the very good, and completely obvious, reason that they weren’t then a highly armed, masked para military force using over aggressive tactics, stopping citizens and killing people.

Back then they found and deported undesirable illegal immigrants.

ICE under Trump targets real threats and criminals aggressively because Democrats policies block easy jail pickups. Back under Obama, democratic states cooperated.

If those Democrat states cooperated with Trump as they did when it was a democratic government we would not be seeing acts of violence against law enforcement.

No, but the number has more than doubled, the training regime shortened, the objectives changed and the senior management changed. Some of the previous leadership were fired. Less supervision, high targets, wearing masks and para military uniforms and carrying military grade weapons has changed what was originally just a border protection force into a militia.

How it is used going forward remains to be seen but don’t rule out voter suppression in the mid terms. Trump is terrified at the prospect of losing the House at the mid terms.

You cannot be serious. Anyone actually watching the videos couldn’t come to that conclusion. There haven’t been any riots. Just protests. Noisy, disruptive perhaps but just protests.

Maybe one day what you, and others try to dismiss as “TDS” will be recognised as just more Trump led deflection. It’s already happening as parts of his base peal off as they begin to understand the huge error they have made. I suspect though you might be the last man standing.
