Mental they have to pay people that much to do the job.
Maybe they don't.

ICE, like most federal agencies, utilizes the GS federal pay scale. Individuals working as ICE Agents begin at a pay grade that directly reflects their education and experience, although most new ICE agents begin at GS-5 which, as of 2012, was between $27,431 and $35,657.

  • GS-5: $27,431-$35,657
  • GS-6: $30,577-$39,748
  • GS-7: 33,979-$44,176
  • GS-8: $37,631-$48,917
  • GS-9: $41,563-$54,028
HSI special agents are usually offered at the GL-7 and GL-9 level.

To qualify at the GS-5 level and receive the equivalent salary, candidates must either possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or at least 3 years of general experience.

To qualify at the GS-7 level, candidates must have at least one full year of graduate-level education or at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.

To qualify at the GS-9 level, candidates must have a master’s degree (or an equivalent graduate degree), or at least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to an LLB or JD degree, or at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.

Thanks perhaps the clip shows that ICE Officers are human and have a sense of humour

$51,632 to - $84,277 per year

Maybe the 200k was just a joke.

"The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot Renee Good last week in Minneapolis, Jonathan Ross, suffered internal bleeding to the torso following the incident."
Perhaps he was suffering from a broken heart as a consequence of the remorse he is now feeling.

Or maybe it’s just a ruse to try to suggest he suffered an injury. There are, apparently, fake videos in circulation which show him in front of the car, so that’s possible.

Looks likely.
Here's the current figure.

How much does an Ice Agent make? As of Jan 12, 2026, the average annual pay for an Ice Agent in the United States is $62,702 a year.
I cheekily looked up if they get a bonus per detainee but apparently they don't. Although there can be several bonuses - including one that seems to suggest an overall target of 3000 arrests per day on a group basis. But maybe Trump will consider it.

This makes far more sense!

You are probably right, many officers who use their weapon in legitimate self defense like this carry lasting trauma and can develop PTSD it's a very real issue in law enforcement, and compassion for that is fair.

As for floating the idea of a "ruse" and fake videos...that is veering straight into the conspiracy theory territory that you usually critisize others for it. You certainly peddle enough of them yourself these days.

This is the “Department of Homeland Security’s” own recruitment information:-

This contains some of the actual recruitment posters, alongside an analysis of what they hope to achieve, where they are being placed and who they are designed to attract.

Seems pretty clear to me who are the kind of people being targeted. Rumours, and pictures, are being circulated that members of the “Proud Boys” have signed up. I have no idea if that is true but the behaviour we have seen and the style of the recruitment suggest it’s very possible.

The training programme has been shortened. These aren’t policemen. This is a lightly trained para military force. They aren’t removing “the worst of the worst”, they are trawling areas for anyone who looks as though they could be an illegal.

It’s why I said “apparently” false. They do show something completely different to the videos posted immediately afterwards with an analysis of why they are fake, and how it was done. So they ought not be trusted, without some independent verification.
