US Politics

What other so called civilised country would you have the right to carry arms and able to get high powered rifles to become a sniper. Right, middle or left the right to carry arms is so wrong. What is wrong with those people that think it’s okay to carry on doing this without changing this rights law - grrrr!

Well, the main argument is that you take away the arms from a citizenry and you make it far easier for governments to get tyrannical.

You know like arresting comedians at airports, arresting thousands of people for tweets and digital IDs coming down the pipe leading to greater central control over people's lives and choices.

But ultimately it's up to them.

I can't believe (actually I can) how much the media has downplayed the Trump assassination attempt. This was not some sado who had fantasies and sent threats but did nothing, it was a genuine attempt.

Trump was putting on one hole the sniper was setup up on the green of the next hole so he would have walked right into the cross hairs. Fortunately security spotted a rifle barrel in the bushes and opened fire.

The media has reported it but it's been fairly low down the list of news items. if that had been Obama it would have been 24hr coverage.
That’s pretty much all it was! If the security around Trump failed to pick this guy up then there’s something seriously wrong with it. It wasn’t a genuine assassination attempt by a trained professional. It was a poorly prepared act of revenge by a frustrated amateur.

It didn’t deserve much media attention. I suspect this kind of thing occurs, and has occurred with other Presidents, but doesn’t get any attention. This did because of the previous attempt and, probably, the Trump camp decided to release it.

I think you are very generous and what you're saying could be said of many people who lie.

I think Trump does lie....quite often...typical real estate guy....on the make as a matter of course.

I also think that there are occasions when you're right to say he's presenting it as he sees it.....and it isn't always accurate but not always lying. He isn't a precision guy with language and never was, his skills are elsewhere.

It's also true that Trump is often lied about by his opponents both half truths and real deliberate root and branch lies.....like Russia-gate.
Or not! Depending on whether you believe Trump’s lies or trust Robert Mueller! I know which one my money is on.

I look at Trumps changing attitude to Ukraine as an indicator of how his allegiance changes, not just to changing circumstances, but to things such as State visits. Some people he gives more leeway to than others.
I think this is part of his strategy to keep people on their toes, but also part of his negotiating skillset, where it's possible he could do something random, without warning
I read somewhere today a much simpler explanation.

Trump’s changing attitude depends on who he last spoke to.

Think about it! There’s definitely truth there.

That's absolutely fair. I said and did the same during Covid. Kudos to someone for researching themselves and not doing just what a government says. 👍🏻
You did a lot more than that! Doing personal research is something many of us did at that time. You reached your own conclusions but then acted on them, even when that involved breaking the law.

That might of held water when the constitution was written but not in the last 100 years. You would hope it would restrain Trump but when it’s his supporters who are the most likely to use guns that’s unlikely.

Restraining hate speech and defamation and introducing IDs that can assist is nothing for the average, law abiding, citizen to fear. This one welcomes it.

That’s stupid. Rather than frighten women unnecessarily they could simply restrict the availability, as we do.

By chance I was talking today to a group of midwives and paediatricians all of whom were disgusted by Trump’s comments and the likely effect on the confidence of their clients.
And they could also stop constructing high buildings people might jump off.
Or shoppers could go to more than one shop and buy some Tylenol in each one or order them online.
In any case aren't politicians elected to make these decisions?
