This is the first time I have heard this idea so I did some research as the concept both makes both and is appalling. It seems some in the MAGA movement have proposed it, so it needs to be taken seriously. However, legal opinion suggests it cannot happen because it isn’t constitutional. The Constitution's 12th Amendment says "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice-president of the United States".

So I don’t think this route is open, but I don’t write off the chance of him creating another one.

I think whatever happens it's obvious that Trump won't allow for what the Democrats tried to do to him and his teams during the Biden administration.

What that creates in the meantime we will see.
 
I doubt Trump will be VP or go for president again. He is only saying these things to troll the gullible looney lefties....

I like the idea of a Vance / Rubio ticket. And the things Trump is saying about Marco Rubio lately gives me the impression that he will endorse him.

Can't really see much competition coming from the Democrats. Gavin Newscum seems to want to run but he is a joke really.

It seems unlikely if only because he'd be 87 at the end of a third term and despite what he claims he doesn't look too healthy now let alone in 8 years time.

Sure he is nearly 80. If I have half as much energy as he has now when I get to that age I will be doing well.

He will probably buy a nice hotel golf course down in cornwall to retire too.

12 cans of Diet Coke a day can do wonders for energy levels if you don't mind jangling with caffeine. He might have an interest in bowling in Cornwall if he can figure out where the skittles go.
 
I think we are seriously under estimating just how dangerous a situation is being created by Trump. I posted yesterday, and today, about the very real possibility he might try to run again, because he cannot afford not to. Something that the Supreme Court are now assisting him in setting up.

Tonight I heard of why another, very obvious, tactic is being employed. In the last few months Trump, and his closest acolytes, have been inventing more and more ridiculous enemies, describing just about anyone who opposes them as the “radical left”, who are now classified as waging a terrorist insurrection against the USA. This includes not only all those protesting about the deployment of the National Guard in their cities, or about the actions of ICE agents, but now the entire Democratic Party, who today were accused of only being supported by Hamas sympathisers, illegal aliens and criminals.

It was suggested that this is all a deliberate ploy so he can justify invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807 which would give him the power to employ the military in the USA. It would be proceeded by an order requiring those he names as committing the insurrection to disperse or be dispersed by the military. He would name the Democratic Party!

This would clear the way for him to proceed without opposition.

Would the military refuse to obey because they regard this as an illegal order? Would Congress finally grow some and do their duty? Will even the right wing MSM finally tell the truth to the MAGA base who are being screwed as much as everyone else?

There'll be electionering soon because the midterms are coming up. It will be interesting to see how the Democrats do and who will be leading them.

That’s the point. There is going to be redistricting approved by the Supreme Court that is probably going to result in the Mid Terms seeing no change to Congress.

Trump is supplying a daily dose of this kind of bs as the basis for his move to authoritarian government. Some, including it seems you, “suck it up”. There are others who don’t.

There are many political commentators in the USA, and elsewhere, who are much better informed and experienced than either of us and come from both sides of the aisle who are taking these threats extremely seriously.

So dismiss them as “bilge” if that satisfies your right wing prejudices and your dislike of everything liberal or progressive. Others aren’t.

This is serious and the opposition to it is growing fast.

If I have understood this correctly then Democrats, mainly in the south have used the tactic of gerrymandering to draw polling districts that favour themselves on the justification of civil rights for black people.

The US and in particular the South has a long history of creating voting districts that favour one party, so called Jim Crow laws, however I think the court will say those days are over. A black person's vote should be equal to a white person's vote no more no less.

The Democrats are squealing about racial injustice but polling districts should be based on population and nothing more.

If you actually look into how these districts are created it is quite disgusting, both parties should support this as no doubt some will point out that the Republicans do the same thing.

Could be an interesting week.

Not for the first time you are regurgitating Trump bs.

It was the Trump administration who agreed the deal with the Taliban. Biden’s inherited a mess and did their best to minimise the impact.

Biden supported Ukraine and NATO. Something Trump, at best, has prevaricated about.

Congress maybe but doesn't change anything at a macro level as far as I can see?
