US Politics

Trump is doing something that no UK leader did.....he's insisting that Americanb companies operate in America's interest first.....which back in the day was just assumed but now very much isn't the case.

But Trump is making them do so.

We on the other hand just sold the family silver to the higher bidder instead of protecting our famous companies.....Now pretty much what everyone thinks is British isn't actually British....like Rolls Royce....which is owned by BMW.
I thought companies on both sides of the Atlantic had fiduciary responsibilities for shareholder interests first. And Rolls Royce holding is massive and listed.

I think you'll find that what an administration wants supersedes 'fiduciary responsibility for shareholders'.

You saw it with Biden and you are seeing it here.

What is best financially is subjective and can be argued that falling in line is actually doing that.

You'll suddenly find that contracts get awarded to competitors and you get passed over...unofficially of course and that laws don't get passed you want or laws that you don't want get passed.....building infrastructure gets turned down, accounts get investigated....all the usual tricks.

That's not how the SEC works though

I don't know why you chose those companies, but I don't think tariffs are a good idea if that helps

I chose those companies because tech jobs and investment has been a main focus of the Trump administration and those two are the biggest American companies involved in chip manufacturer.

I'm sorry, but I made a contention that fits with the facts, whereas you responded in the negative. As you have chosen to do this I imagine you have a good reason for thinking that.....I'm asking you for the explanation of why both these companies have come cap in hand to Trump over his demands if it isn't what I've said.

Or are you just being contrarian?

Whether tariffs are good or bad wasn't the point.
