I really enjoy it here. This forum is the only way to get in touch with fans from England. I also watched Stoke city, as long as Marko Arnautovic was a player there. Back then I already wished, and I still do so, to once, or twice, or a hubdred times, I could ever witness a game in a stadium. But it would not be just because of players and or coaches from Austria. I could spot a big difference in the kind of way of communicating and kind of respect in the way of talk between english and german/austrian Fans. Here, there is no envy. Thats what I enjoy the most. So, to make it short: Schnitzel came to stay. THE Schnitzel.

Indeed, I still remember that quote. But he is just a step away from breaking the all-time record of Toni Polster from the most goals scored in the Austrian squad.

And he does this, what I would expect from a professional footballer. Playing football. And he does it very good. He will retire soon, for the fact that he is 36 and turning 37 in April.

That is true. Arnie was/is really not that good header. I only can recall one or two goals in that way. Freekicks, yeah, he was good at that one, but Sabitzer overtook it (who is better, to be fair). Arnies big talent is to bind players, tearing holes in the opponents defense and, and that is the most interesting point, to make the defence forget about him and he appears alone in front of the GK to score brutally. This is the one ability, he perfected and did not forget with his 36 years. That fits him well, because of his age he is, which seems legitim, is not that enduring anymore.

Off topic a bit but Cyprus also have pafos in the CL. I was at the airport when they had there playoff game to qualify proper.
The smoking lounge was rather full. Went mental at the end.
Just observing these smaller nations progressing on the pitch is good to see. Albeit it’s easier to qualify and more do.

I remember that Famagusta featured in European competitions quite often. They sometimes turned up with a good squad (backed obviously by a rich owner). They were not to be underrated and had some good results in Europe. Still remember that they once knocked out Rapid Vienna in a CL Qualifier.

AZ did have a player sent off in the 2nd minute so Larnaka effectively played the whole match against 10 men.

100%. There is so much more to this system then is immediately obvious. And its not just about grafting, its about making decision making and being 5 steps ahead.

In one of those analysis videos doing the rounds after Liverpool, the fella highlighted TM intercepting a long VVD cross field ball (which was impressive enough in itself).

But what was great to see is that the moment that ball was in the air, TM left his man and decided to attack it (or was told), Guehi instantly sprinted to cover TM, and Wharton and Kamada stuck tight to the 2 Liverpool midfielders.

If TM gets it, we create a counter, but he's able to gamble knowing that everything behind and to the side of him is ready to protect him if he doesn't get it. Its 100% coordinated. Guehi literally moves up the millisecond TM goes.

With this team there is so much that happens without us realising it.

In the front 3 Mateta and Sarr understand their roles very well and the signs are promising that Pino will be the last piece in the jigsaw so they can work together as closely as the back 3 do.

If any of those 6 players don’t feature we don’t look quite as formidable, although Lerma does a sterling job in the back 3 and Kamada/ Devenny at least look solid even if they don’t carry the same threat.
We have good options in central midfield, with Wharton the one with X factor to provide extra guile.

The other key player in the system is Munoz, who dominates the right hand side and provides much of the attacking thrust in the team.
We don’t have a ready made option if Munoz is unavailable for any reason.

True but being hyper critical if our midfield carried any goal threat things would be even better. Even a handful each would be a huge advantage.

I was making this observation in a conversation only yesterday and I have articulated this on a few occasions. It would be a significant blow if Munoz was unavailable.
A lack of a goal threat from midfield is also a concern.Pino has not arrived with a creditable goal scoring record and Wharton for all his outstanding ability is not known for his goalscoring ability.
Hughes has only scored a solitary goal for us in over 100 PL appearances.

Yet he could have easily had about half a dozen goals already for us, he certainly gets in the positions to score. Hopefully once he gets off the mark we might see a few more from him
