Trevoh Chalobah

I tend to agree with this. Happy with Chalobah as a squad CH at a reasonable price but in no way would he ever be a satisfactory Guehi replacement, there are much better players out there.
Agreed but in fairness who shy of £70m would be?

I think we struck gold when Lacroix came in to replace Andersen. Guehi is one of the world's best centre halves and, unlike when he signed for us, we have one young promising centre back playing first team minutes already in Canvot.

I think when really top players like Olise, Eze, Guehi move on it is so difficult to "replace" them. You just need to build new teams around new really good players and start again. Sarr has impressed me hugely in this regard.

Lacroix was a suitably good player and he didn’t cost £70m so they are out there and again with Canvot (as you have mentioned), you don’t need to spend massive money to get a decent centre half.

I definitely do not put Chalobah in the Guehi or even the Lacroix league so £35m is way too much. £15m-£20m maybe.

Exactly.

Zabarnyi (£24M), Huijsen (£13M), Guehi (£20M), Murillo (£11M) and Milenkovic (£12M) just 5 examples of exceptionally good PL central defenders and only one of them cost their respective clubs North of £20M.

A big question is how many centre-backs we'll be playing with this season, as if Sage did revert to a back four, then there is little pressure to sign another one, even if Lacroix left, as we currently have Riad, Canvot, Richards, the new Spanish bloke, and the option of Lerma filling in. If Lacroix stays then I'm not sure we'll need to sign a new centre-back at all.

We know what Chalobah would give us. He'd be solid, but nothing more. As others have said, at £20m or less it's a good deal, otherwise look elsewhere. What we'd miss if Lacroix left is his pace and his leadership. I'm not sure TC would give us either of those.

Good.

I don't mind him as a player. But he's a Chelsea reserve player and should be worth no more than 20m. The money they want for him is madness... But I'm sure someone will pay it...I just hope it's not us.
We would have paid it given he has been ground tested and fits the club.

However, query whether the connection to us (and even the snub?) was just agent mind games to link him to a bigger club.

Chalobah is decent. We know he's good enough, and kept Richards out of the team.

However he's 27, so not really any resell potential.

We need to find the next Canvot.

No thanks. He is always an accident waiting to happen. That's why Chelsea wants rid of him.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the fact that Tuchel (sorry Southgate Mk 2) called him up to replace Livramento seems to have convinced Chelsea they can add at least £10m to his value - it may also sway Hobbs to think he's worth buying as he seems to like the club buying average players at inflated prices. It does seem there has been discussions between Palace and Chelsea re Lacroix and which of the Chelsea cast-offs we should accept going the other way.

With saliba from arsenal now facing 5-6 months out. I would hope it drives up the price of LaCroix in a hopeful bidding war.

Oh damn, wtf are you playing at Parish, we really wanted & needed him, I mean, look at his forlorn face, £35m is peanuts for a Chelsea reject, gutted. 😊
