Trepidation for the 26/27 Prem season ?

yup. Only slightly more embarrassing than Conference League Winners. Its not really prestigious, is it ? We beat a bunch of pub teams and it all culminated against Vallecano....they dont even have electricity at their stadium.

The Europa League will be almost as difficult as the Prem to win. Or the FA Cup. Of course we did get silverware, so hopefully we will again. But look at the dire Prem performance of many teams who are also playing in Europe.
At least the ZDS we didn’t have to play 17 times and travel round Europe to win it 🤣

In terms of net additions to our squad, were -2. From a threadbare squad. Now that the dust has settled from the world cup, I'd hope to see a couple more signings over the line before the season starts. Otherwise, with the demands of The Europa League, we could be in trouble

The important thing is not the players it is the manager, Larsen, Pino and Johnson are all proven players, its the job of Sage to get the best pieces to fit the puzzle, i am in know doubt we have the players if the manager is flexible enough to play the style that suits the players, then we will do well, if he doesn't we wont
Thats funny, last season you said our success had nothing to do with Glasner and was entirely down to the players.

The squad is barely good enough to survive in the Premier League, let alone also compete in Europe. Plus the cups. We're not good enough. Not enough quality; not enough depth. The harsh reality. What are we doing about it? Maybe signing Tomiyasu.

Some developments. Hughes not good enough any more. Lerma really only back up. Which leaves us only Kamada and Wharton as up to scratch. We've got two wide players or tens or whatever: Pino and Sarr. I'm not counting Johnson, why would I? Sage won't. We've got full back cover, Wing back cover just about. We've got three centre backs at it stands. We've only got one decent goalie too.
Up front: below average Strand-Larsen who was somehow a 45 mil player. . Despite being pants for a relegation side. Have we got Mateta? Having an operation, leaving who knows?

Our cover largely consists of players who some of us hope are perhaps good enough. But when we see them perform, they largely seem to be below average or poor for our standard.

We're linked to more leaving. But not linked to buying anyone actually good enough to improve our team.
We haven't even stood still to go backwards. We're actively reversing.

Our best hope, our only hope really, is three worse teams. Which may oblige us or may not.

Unless we suddenly buy three or four quality players. Yes, I know. Dreamland.

I agree with everything apart from Strand-Larsen, he's a decent player, puts himself about, gives away too many fouls and not as good as Mateta as holding the ball up, but there's a decent player there, plus he was always playing with Johnson who offers nothing. With enough service he will get goals.

Winning it is ok. It's kind of the minimum expectation of a Premier League side. But losing in the final would not have been nice.
its what i hope and pray for. For Brighton in 2027. Maybe Brighton could lose to Shelbourne in the later stages. I may go back to that Dublin stadium and stand at the opposite End to where Palace stood. Teach the Shelbourne fans some of our anti-Brighton songs.

A downbeat assessment but you are not a lonely straw in the wind or a lighthouse in the desert on this matter.
Supporters with whom I have engaged in conversation share these concerns and are getting increasingly concerned about our prospects. Some believe that after the 'Golden era' we are on the glide path to the Championship.

clearly i'm hoping for another mid table finish and Sage to hit the ground running.

However, i am worried and our transfer dealings thus far this summer are not helping.

Just to add some fuel to the fire why can Bournemouth go out and on paper buy 2 decent players (CB and CF) for c£25m each, which is exactly our price range, and yet we seem unable to get anything over the line.

I suspect from a defence perspective if we get one of the 2 Chelsea loans we've been linked with over the line then things will be looking slightly better.

Then only midfield and wide left to sort.

I appreciate your concerns however there are nearly 3 weeks before the start of the season.

After being quite upbeat at start of July about the up and coming season, the pre season and transfer activity (or again lack of it) has certainly affected my positivity.

We are simply not good enough at present and have rested on our laurels and not built upon last season's success.

Letting Imray go I think was a mistake, especially if Munoz gets injured.

We desperately need central midfielders who can contribute with goals column.

Pino seems he will be missing come the start of the season and Johnson appears to be a broken player at present.

We seemingly can't make decision on a replacement CB for Lacroix.

On the plus side Forest lost 4 - 1 to sporting Lisbon on Friday, so perhaps not the only side with pre season issues.

Bournemouth will imminently be signing Sevilla right-back Juanlu.

I'm going to go into the season with a positive attitude and that we will depend heavily on Hull City, Ipswich Town and Coventry City to be our Atlases and hold us up by sacrificing themselves to be relegated. Maybe Nottingham Forest decides to join the party and take the place of one of the other three.

I suspect that an investment in Tums will be made for the last month of the season.

We are facing the issue of trying to be a financially responsible team in an fiscally irresponsible league and it puts us at a huge disadvantage each season as we are competing with the middle of the pack to be the best of the rest. Sage's style can clearly work but I don't see the current roster having what the style needs to make it work as a whole. Parts are there, but the depth sure isn't.

Its quite obvious what the clubs transfer strategy is and has been for years. They're happy to see how things play out for the first half of the season. If we're in trouble, they'll spend in jan to ensure prem survival. There's no way they're risking it all in the summer leaving us with no options in jan.

I'd usually want a bit more ambition from the club but I don't really rate our squad at present, it would cost too much to see us compete in the league without Europe aswell.

I'll be pretty content with another European jolly and being better than 3 other clubs in the league.

We can only hope two or three signings are made before the window is closed. Just as last preseason the squad is obviously short of where it needs to be, the price for that then was being beaten by a sixth tier outfit in the cup, setting a new unwanted record, and producing relegation form throughout the second half of the season. A spending session in January was enough to win the Conference Cup.
But here we are again, squad numbers back were they were last year and as of yet nothing to significantly improve a squad in need of improvement let alone expansion.
