Transfer spending over??

No. It’s bad luck but it doesn’t take away from the fact that means he’s not been a good signing.
But it shows that he does have the playing potential to shine. Issue is that the club spent large and yet where are the alternatives that can be found and at a price that is within range? Mateta is hardly firing on all cylinders given % conversion success. No doubting the fact that Nketiah wants to succeed at Palace.

We have signed so many players recently who don’t get a run of games, only bits & pieces and consequently get regularly slagged off, Canvot, Uche, Esse & Nketiah for example & among whom at least the first 2 have shown proper potential when played.
Compare Benteke in his first full season under Pardew where he top scored with 18 goals with the player under Hodgson who was a bit part player & unused substitute !!

It was indeed a terrible buy. Somebody with a very mediocre goal scoring record who didn’t fit a system where we play one up top.
Going back to my old broken record Delap was the striker. Good fit to JPM, younger and £5 million cheaper. Supposedly Nketiah snubbed us previously but was kept on the radar. Johnson was also previously courted. Fingers crossed he can show better early form compared to Nketiah. Will be crucial as transfer window has now gone to pot. I can't see us dipping into the market strongly. The whole thing is now in disarray with OG's announcement. Can't believe SP knew earlier in the season that this was going to happen. Real curve ball n a little bizarre. Need to regroup, reset and get back some form for the PL n Europe, in that order imho, for the rest of the season.

He’s had a fantastic attitude since he came here. Hope it works for him as he gives his all. When OG leaves he may have more opportunities but I think it needs us to play with two up top which most teams don’t these days. Apparently we were looking to sell him this window but who knows and that may all change now

I do think this is a good point.

Also worth referencing the progression that Kamada made between his early days and now.

Early days, but Esse also has shone for Cov so far.

He has only played 2 games for Coventry. I saw him in the 1st half of Coventry's home game against Leicester the other day and it wasn't a 'Stand out' performance.
I have no idea how he performed after the break.

Where exactly are the new signings as having lost our Captain,Mateta looks set for Juve, and huge interest in Wharton ??

Wharton will probably be around for a while since we want an enormous fee for him and anyone paying that much would likely want a player who scores at least now and again.
This is not meant as a criticism of him and hopefully we can benefit from him playing through to the pace of Sarr and Johnson.

I think we should try and re new Wharton's contract with a 90+ mil release clause.

I think we've been quoted as wanting more than that although if anyone offered a large fee that might well change. He's still young and has time to get his big move unless by some miracle he wants to stay.

We may already have our captain's replacement in the form of Riad and/or Canvot. With Glasner going, it is likely that any new manager will play 4 at the back so with Lacroix, Richards, Canvot and Riad, the CB position might be deemed to be adequately covered by the board.

Juve won't get Mateta unless they pay what we want and my understanding is that they on'y want a loan with conditional obligation to buy.

As for Wharton, he won't be leaving in this window unless someone offers at least £100m for him and that's not going to happen.

As for the Summer - interesting times ahead.

And is that his fault?
Of course it's partly Nketiah's fault - he gets a number of muscle injuries - is he not warming up properly etc??

One of the early hamstring injuries was caused when he had a personal fitness session - so he clearly didn't warm up properly and his fitness coach should be sacked.

Players we were going to sign were looking for a Champions League qualification bonus; players we are now going to sign will want a relegation release clause.
Players we're signing now just need to do their best for us and f*** off with their clauses.......in a perfect world of course.

It's curious that it's every players' dream to play in the Premier League but they'll only do so with a raft of conditions and get out clauses.

Works both ways, though as we'd like want a reduction in wages clause in the case of relegation.

But regardless the staggering loss of form will of course unsettle some potential new signings. And alter their perspective on the situation. e.g. a higher wage, relegation exit fee, or just wait until later in the window to see if we improve
