Toxic 6/7

So pissed off about the state of modern football.

Brighton fan here of the Mullery/Venables vintage, who lives in Brighton and has many Palace mates.

Haven’t been to your place since the five penalties game in 89.

My (mis)understanding of our rivalry is 40+ years deep - but I’d still have Palace against the toxic 6/7 who dominate everything about modern ‘elite’ football.

Don’t want to -literally- fight good (community) football clubs anymore, but absolutely want to see the f***ing media obsessed, globalist, rule- manipulative, clubs ground into the dust (never happen).

It’s a f***ed up world.

I totally agree with you.
I'm a lifelong Palace fan since 75 so similar vintage to you I guess. I lived in Brighton for the majority of my life - not an easy gig for an 11 year old in a new town and new school.
It really is a struggle watching football these days. As you say, main interest seems to be in a few clubs at the top (even if some of them are or have been closer to the bottom). The spending is totally out of control. Flick from say BBC news to BBC sport and it's plain to see what a f**ked up world it really is.
Listening to 606 (which is also almost beyond me as well), it's very seldom an accent matches the place the team is.
Obviously I want us to beat Brighton twice a season but that's as far as it goes. A couple of mates who are Brighton fans (one of which doesn't go anymore because of all the time wasting, diving and frankly boring playing out from the back football). Another is a Luton supporter and goes when he can - again, not an easy team to support.
Let's hope there is still room for clubs like CPFC, BHA and Luton in whatever exclusive nonsense follows the premier league (which I am sure will happen at some point.
Don't worry about your absence at Selhurst since 89. It's still largely the same - just more expensive....

Are you pissed off with North Korean Chat? Did you upset Bozza?

There's a thread here for you, weed.

I don't spend much time reading this forum and have no social media at all.
Whenever I do post anything on here, I soon regret it.
Here's a BHA fan making constructive comments about the state of the game generally and all he gets is a volley of abuse from a few people who completely ignore the point he's making and can't get past the strange equation that seems to be:

Brighton Fan = fair game for any abuse regardless of anything he says.

I want Palace to beat Brighton at each and every opportunity but that doesn't mean abusing Brighton fans or supporters of any other club is generally an acceptable method of getting your views across.
Here's an idea - engage your brains and discuss the point he makes. If that is beyond you then just say nothing. It would make this forum a much nicer place to spend a few minutes - you should try it.

Reading his post again, I can’t disagree with anything he says. Football has been ruined in so many ways. Sky started the ball rolling ( excuse the pun) by paying a fortune to televise games and structuring payments so the big clubs stay top. Huge companies and even countries have bought those clubs adding to the imbalance. Then to ensure no one can break into the monopoly we have PAR rules designed to ensure the status quo. Even the Saudi Geordies are struggling to compete because of PSR.

On the football side we have the Premier League running the show to suit the top six while the FA blazers do sweet FA. We have PGMOL messing with the rules of the game and UEFA manipulating competition rules to suit their mates while using those same rules to keep clubs like Palace away from the big competitions. TV companies have now decided football isn’t something that starts at 3pm on a Saturday but should be geared to suit TV audiences rather than fans. About the only thing that has improved in the last 50 years is the state of the pitches!

Against this depressing backdrop our club has managed to survive and grow to the point where we have won 2 trophies and on the field on any given day can compete with any club in the league. It’s why we still love the game despite how f**ked up it is. One day the whole pack of cards will collapse and maybe we will get some sanity back into the game.

Good post, as was the OP.

The stuff behind the scenes to keep the top clubs top is behind the scenes so out of sight. Still pernicious, but not as grating as the media partiality.

Sky are Liverpool but it is the BBC that needs to be properly held account. It's Manure bias - they don't even seek to hide it.

And if you want partiality, wait till after the game on Saturday. Palace win and it is what went wrong for Liverpool accompanied by much whaling and gnashing of teeth. Palace lose and it is their 100% record and the march to the title.

Some people just don't get football.......

I mean you. I couldn't care if he's got points or not, part of the entertainment is rivalry and banter. Sorry you are too sensible to get involved, and too boring to patronise others about how above it you are.

Maybe bowls is a better sport for you, the aggression is vital for football supporting, or knitting

We love our clubs but we go to watch a game and watch the majority of22 players on the pitch cheat, in all honesty.
Couple that with the top 6/7 as the OP stated and the money and corruption at the highest level and I am not sure how much longer I will continue to attend games.
I have been supporting Palace since the early 60's and we all know how much the game has changed - some of it for the good of course - but overall, the experience for me is not what it was - even a few years ago.
As someone once quoted - All money corrupts, and big money corrupts bigly (is there such a word?).

No they didn't, but you are still correct.

Indeed, I suspect I'm not alone in getting fed up with it all. Particularly the tourists, the bias decisions, the costs and the clear political bias of the Premier League and football overall. I enjoyed games more when we were s*** in the 80s and that is not an exaggeration. We were all in it together those days. Some players even had some loyalty.
I sometimes feel like giving it up and have once before. Only to be dragged back in like the fool that I am.
The one thing the Premier League is good for is being able to see your team on the TV. Otherwise, it's not better for fans. I could easily argue that it's worse.
There's more of a laugh at non league. Last Selhurst match I went to, there were more away fans around me than Palace. Although they did just about try and hide it.
The ticket farce needs to be sorted. I believe that would help most sides.
