Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

He said in an interview he was 99% going to sign a contract with us....it never happened & subsequently ha's said we never replaced Olise, Ebz and you dont sell your captain & best CB without a replacement.

Genuinely dont see how we stay up this season & its purely down to p*ss poor recruitment.
You realise that prick forced us to buy brennan johnson + JSL right

Mateta, getting himself sent off made things easier for Spurs, but it doesn’t hide the blunder of Grays easy headed goal, or the fact that Spurs absolutely dominated us on and off the ball always appearing to want the ball far more than we did. Time and again our midfield lost possession, got brushed off the ball, and invariably outpaced in any foot race. It could and should have been more than two. Bottom line was we were never good enough, the question remains will we ever be under this manager, or any other.

If there is any such thing as a Palace DNA then this is it. I think we as a fanbase are a lot more accepting of functional, hard working football than some others.
Yeah I can only speak for myself but I don't particularly care about the football style I just enjoy winning or at least nor losing. Any way we can achieve that somewhat consistently works for me!

Yep. I predicted this was the season we would struggle against relegation for all the reasons myself and others have commented upon. All the signs were there. As chairman Parish had months to assess the situation last season after Glasner said he was off. Literally 8 or more months to project manage, assess the needs of the squad, find a competent new manager, secure worthwhile transfers that added depth and quality. But he f***ed up on every front. s*** happens.
Looking forward, what can he do to find a solution to the many problems the side faces? Sack the manager. Yeah that's a given easy target to shift the blame for his own ineptitude. Sage will be glad to take his pay-off and return to management in France. Of the known managers who can fire fight in the situation we find ourselves in only Dyche springs to mind as available. So it's likely going to be him then.
Buy in the January window. Well it might work, but decent players will be at a premium and the record thus far under Hobbs is abysmal.
It was all so predictable.
Which players are so abysmal that Hobbs has signed and which manager do you think Parish should of got in 8 months ago?

At least I'll be rocketing up the season ticket waiting list, not sure if I'm 100% committed myself now though 😅

Haha. My son, being only 7 years old, isn't used to Palace being in such a precarious position. But I've managed to brainwash him into being fairly hardcore. To keep him going, I've just started mentioning the merits of being able to go to a whole bunch of new away grounds if we did go down... just in case 😅

Commentator: "A win perhaps made easier by Mateta's sending off on the 12th minute..."

That summed up the quality of the commentary.

With JP and 11 men, we had an outside chance of scrapping for something. Once he went off, the game was gone, and it's hard to really properly assess the performance, as the players all worked hard but had no outlet. Having said that, you can't ignore Wharton once again giving the ball away cheaply in dangerous positions and poor defending at set-pieces. I actually thought the defence did pretty well, considering, but our midfield and forwards repeatedly conceded possession too cheaply. And even with 10 men, you would hope we could do more than have one half-chance and no corners.

It didn't help that every 50/50 decision went Spurs' way, but we would expect nothing less from Oliver.

With JSL injured and JP suspended for the next 3 PL games, we're going to be relying on Nketiah.

F**k.
Frankly it is too much to over emphasis the sending off in relation to the first goal when it was poor defending. We could of had 7 players on the pitch and done better. We have the worse goal difference in the league and seem to be averaging at least 2 goals a game. If that mess doesn't change we are right in it this season This is worse than Glasners early stint as to compound the misery we do not have the likes of Eze and Olise in attack to produce a spark. We had a better defence and attack and started to gain confidence as a team. In any case that season had a different trajectory as Glasner came in at the back end after Roy and got us purring. This change feels different and a bit more worrying as the start has been poor which we haven't seen for some seasons.

The first goal had nothing to do with the sending off it was just poor defending which we have had all season. Now that might not be the new managers fault but if he cannot get a tune out of them the only option is a change to see if a new manager can. Obviously this is a punt but an inevitable one as PL survival is the main game.
It had nothing to do with the sending off, that was Mateta's foul. That meant Mateta was not available at corners, where he is useful with his height. The players didn't reorganise themselves properly, covered the front post, but left the back.
If you noticed in the second half, we did have someone on the back post, after Sage reorganised them.

Of the many disappointments tonight the worst is probably the sheer inevitability of the result. Did anyone genuinely expect a different outcome? Second is that despite a three week break we don't seem to have even identified the problems let alone come up with any solutions.

No, Glasner wanted forest for his 17.5m a year, a 12m a year pay rise, you have to laugh at Merry Knickers, Glasner is crap, and always was and will be, unfortunately Sage seems to work off the same handbook.
He was crap ? Did he not deliver 3 trophies?

Do you know of another alike crap manager that can also be same crap way & win trophies too ?

That's good but it does beg the question of why we didn't have someone there before. It's not as though it's the first time we've been punished for leaving space there.

The only different outcome I expected was a far higher scoreline in their favour. This is the least confident I have been in our team for a very long time.

The only problem for Sage is that the horse hasn’t so much bolted as been shipped off to Belgium, rendered down and turned into glue.

Still, at least he’s finally thought about attempting to close that particular stable door. The only problem is that the horse was taken away several weeks ago, and he’s only just noticed it’s missing.

Not much consolation but whatever game plan we had went out the window with the red card. That and the fact we have a non-competing midfield putting us under even more pressure.

Like everyone on this site - no words can add any comfort to the awful situation we find ourselves in.

The players were under pressure for 80 minutes, so we must give some credit (And luck), to the fact it was only 2-0.

But, more importantly, my worry is the players body language. They have lost that buzz, togetherness and determination. Where are the leaders?

With regards to Sage, my greatest compliment to him is that in a game of poker, he would be a great player - because he is emotionless.

In ‘my’ opinion, a more experienced manager would know how to set up a team with 10 players - Sage was clueless!

I would have taken Canvot off (again, he had a very poor game), changed to a 441 - and brought Hughes or Lerma on.

Anyway, before you throw insults my way, I’m just saying what I feel! Bitterly disappointed.
