Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

You should still put in a decent showing against a cr*p Spurs team with 10 men. We didn't. Not even close. So far off the pace. We have zero leadership and zero plan B.

I could excuse some of the defeats so far if I could see real fight, if I came away thinking 'we were really unlucky again', things just need to click. But I don't.

We were lucky against Forest. We were lucky against Fulham. Luck only get you so far.

Sage out. Hobbs out. Dyche in.

What makes me laugh is the Spurs players and fans celebrating like they've won the world f***ing cup , they almost had 85 mins against 10 men and could only manage 2 goals, and we're shite .

No they aren’t. He left because he thought he’d get a job with a ‘big club’ and when he realised that wasn’t on the cards he went to one of the few clubs worse than us for the money. If transfers were his reason for leaving why did he join a club that sold their best player this summer?

I am not saying our recruitment has been anything other than absolutely dreadful but let’s not pretend Glasner didn’t leave for purely selfish reasons.
Glasner left when the team was doing badly in the PL but winning in Europe and the team were dreadful at corners. So far Sage hasn’t improved on that but he’s been hamstrung by selling our best defenders and replacing them with kids and rejects. Nothing wrong with cashing in on players, it’s what we have to do, but recruitment has to be good.
Looking at Sarr and Wharton, I think we missed the boat on cashing those two in but wouldn’t trust Hobbs to replace either based on his performance. He’s spent more than Dougie ever did and wasted it.

You’re so right. Blackburn, Bolton, Stoke…….we’re next.

The team kept there shape they was committed to stopping them . We had no outlet with 10 men . For me I was very proud of the players they never gave up , spuds have had two games against 10 , one the keeper scored for them . The team talk is going to be easy . Show the commitment and keep the shape the tide will turn , slap a couple for not looking for the first goal . Other than that the defence stayed strong . Sage to stay until players give up 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅

Glasner walked because he knew Hobbs & Parish would give him s*** players !!!

Sage threw caution to the wind & some one was pissing , he copped the lot
For him , if he’s sacked I wish him the best with a new club

As we All know we punched high with a limited squad & minimal investment

Yet truly if Hobbs & Parish saw the downfall of Spurs & West ham after winning in Europe they might learn something & not make same mistakes

But Both of them will not for once look at themselves & ask that question of ……. We needed to invest better to attempt to better on last seasons

Fools do not prosper
No, Glasner wanted forest for his 17.5m a year, a 12m a year pay rise, you have to laugh at Merry Knickers, Glasner is crap, and always was and will be, unfortunately Sage seems to work off the same handbook.

When PS has the luxury of having a fit and interested Mateda and Sarr which OG had perhaps we can judge him then.
If that happens we are truly stuffed because JPM will now be out for three games and Sarr is done for the time being. We don’t have three games of Sage to waste. Missing Sarr and JPM aren’t the reason we have the worst defence in the division. When we concede at over 2 goals a game and are in the relegation zone I think we can easily judge Sage now.

Everyone seems to think this squad is awful. I genuinely don’t think it’s that bad. There’s certainly a lot more depth to it now than we’ve had in previous years.

I’m unfortunately old enough to remember the 1990/91 season, when our back four consisted of John Humphrey, Andy Thorn, Eric Young and Richard Shaw, with Geoff Thomas and Andy Gray in midfield.

Everyone remembers Wright and Bright, but here’s the interesting thing. We scored just 50 league goals that season, conceded 41 and finished third in the First Division.

Why? Because we were an exceptionally well-drilled, organised outfit. Every player knew his job, understood the (simple) system and did what was expected of him.

Fast forward to Tony Pulis. Again, we weren’t blessed with an extraordinary squad, but we were organised, disciplined and bloody difficult to beat. The same with Roy.

That’s my fundamental problem with Sage. I actually think we’ve got a fairly decent squad, but I don’t think he’s capable of organising it. And increasingly, I think he’s been found out.

When opposition teams continually exploit the same weakness, particularly balls delivered to the back post, you do something about it. You change the marking, you adjust the defensive shape, you coach the players. That’s literally what a manager is paid to do.

Every opposition team seems to have worked out how to exploit us, yet somehow our own coaching staff haven’t worked out how to stop it.

And if the argument is that we’ve got a limited squad, then surely the manager’s job is to get the absolute maximum out of the players available, rather than persist with a system that clearly isn’t working.

Sean Dyche took Burnley to seventh in the Premier League with a squad that, man for man, I’d argue was considerably weaker than the one we’ve got now.

He did it through organisation, discipline and making the team greater than the sum of its parts.

That’s what good coaching looks like.

I don’t think our biggest problem is the quality of the players. I think it’s the inability of the manager to organise them into a functioning team.
Completely agree with this.

It doesn't matter what is and is not Sage's fault. All that matters is whether changing manager is likely to improve performances and results.
Yes I agree, as it stands clearly Sage cannot be blamed for players being sent off which really is what changed the game here. The defence were at fault with the first goal, once again defending the back post is the problem, however the failings in this team go back way beyond the arrival of Sage. Changing Managers cannot change the inadequate players we have for the EPL whilst at the same time being expected to compete in multiple competitions. We have to face facts decisions above Sage are responsible for the position we find ourselves in and until that changes whatever manager we have we not going to be able to change things. Sorry this is so negative but it is reality.

Thank you. Perfect analysis.
