Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

No they aren’t. He left because he thought he’d get a job with a ‘big club’ and when he realised that wasn’t on the cards he went to one of the few clubs worse than us for the money. If transfers were his reason for leaving why did he join a club that sold their best player this summer?

I am not saying our recruitment has been anything other than absolutely dreadful but let’s not pretend Glasner didn’t leave for purely selfish reasons.
He said in an interview he was 99% going to sign a contract with us....it never happened & subsequently ha's said we never replaced Olise, Ebz and you dont sell your captain & best CB without a replacement.

Genuinely dont see how we stay up this season & its purely down to p*ss poor recruitment.

Everyone seems to think this squad is awful. I genuinely don’t think it’s that bad. There’s certainly a lot more depth to it now than we’ve had in previous years.

I’m unfortunately old enough to remember the 1990/91 season, when our back four consisted of John Humphrey, Andy Thorn, Eric Young and Richard Shaw, with Geoff Thomas and Andy Gray in midfield.

Everyone remembers Wright and Bright, but here’s the interesting thing. We scored just 50 league goals that season, conceded 41 and finished third in the First Division.

Why? Because we were an exceptionally well-drilled, organised outfit. Every player knew his job, understood the (simple) system and did what was expected of him.

Fast forward to Tony Pulis. Again, we weren’t blessed with an extraordinary squad, but we were organised, disciplined and bloody difficult to beat. The same with Roy.

That’s my fundamental problem with Sage. I actually think we’ve got a fairly decent squad, but I don’t think he’s capable of organising it. And increasingly, I think he’s been found out.

When opposition teams continually exploit the same weakness, particularly balls delivered to the back post, you do something about it. You change the marking, you adjust the defensive shape, you coach the players. That’s literally what a manager is paid to do.

Every opposition team seems to have worked out how to exploit us, yet somehow our own coaching staff haven’t worked out how to stop it.

And if the argument is that we’ve got a limited squad, then surely the manager’s job is to get the absolute maximum out of the players available, rather than persist with a system that clearly isn’t working.

Sean Dyche took Burnley to seventh in the Premier League with a squad that, man for man, I’d argue was considerably weaker than the one we’ve got now.

He did it through organisation, discipline and making the team greater than the sum of its parts.

That’s what good coaching looks like.

I don’t think our biggest problem is the quality of the players. I think it’s the inability of the manager to organise them into a functioning team.

A decision on Sage will only be made during the International break. Mateta getting sent off has bought him sometime. Playing with 10 men for 80 minutes, away against a team with their tales up, isn't fare to condemn him.
The first goal had nothing to do with the sending off it was just poor defending which we have had all season. Now that might not be the new managers fault but if he cannot get a tune out of them the only option is a change to see if a new manager can. Obviously this is a punt but an inevitable one as PL survival is the main game.

Thank f*** for the captain!
I'll say it now and put on my tin hat but if Parish is looking to change coach he should get in Sean Dyche, he's the only available coach who will toughen up this shower, get them defending correctly and win us a few b****** games.

Glasner walked because he knew Hobbs & Parish would give him s*** players !!!

Sage threw caution to the wind & some one was pissing , he copped the lot
For him , if he’s sacked I wish him the best with a new club

As we All know we punched high with a limited squad & minimal investment

Yet truly if Hobbs & Parish saw the downfall of Spurs & West ham after winning in Europe they might learn something & not make same mistakes

But Both of them will not for once look at themselves & ask that question of ……. We needed to invest better to attempt to better on last seasons

Fools do not prosper

Is that possible!?
Defensively no. We are the worst team in the league in almost every defensive category. I suppose we could theoretically go backwards on goals scored as we are only fourth worst in the division. Mind you Sage is trying hard there given we haven’t scored in over 270 minutes of league football.

It's all just pretty grim isn't it.

Everything going wrong so something needs to change. Time for the the decision makers to make some correct decisions for once.

Cant knock the effort there this evening even though the game was over after 12 minutes .
Yes its easier to defend when you're camped around your own box but the lads did OK on that score and apart from the first goal were well organised .

Would have loved to have seen the McNiel chance hit the back of the net which would have given us a different last 15 minutes

I'm not listening to all the noise about the manager , I'm confident he will turn it around .

He said in an interview he was 99% going to sign a contract with us....it never happened & subsequently ha's said we never replaced Olise, Ebz and you dont sell your captain & best CB without a replacement.

He’s done the same at his last two clubs before us. As I say I agree our recruitment is awful but that ain’t the reason Glasner went. His MO is to do two years then engineer a public reason to leave

Didn't think it was too bad given Mateta took all our threat away. More work on defence needed but I think it's improved over the last few games.
Sadly I suspect the best bit of the Liverpool game will be the half time pint
