For those of us that spent years going there before and after games, there may be good news. It looks like making a comeback as an independent pub selling traditional ales. Fingers crossed that will be in April.

I was convinced it would be bought by a developer, so this is a welcome surprise.

I have heard the same news

That would be fantastic news. Two of the lads I used to drive to away games with in the 90’s always used to drink there for home games. I used to join them on occasions before standing on The Holmesdale. Would be great to keep the pub going!

I heard yesterday that the new owner of The Brewers is the woman that had The Royal Standard, the Fullers pub under the flyover. That was a nicely ran pub so this should be a good thing 😎

I wonder if she'll bring all her owl ornaments and cat with her 😊
Not quite right. Emma will run it and will bring some of her team with her. She is a Master Cellarman and it shows. The owner will be the previous lease-holder from the Royal Standard.

Yes, I have no doubt the owls and the pussycats (Winston and Stanley) will be coming.

The move was supposed to be happening in April but that is not looking realistic.

I cannot imagine many buyers as pubs are a thing of the past,Immigrants are usually non drinkers, the youth today are on a health kick, best of luck to both parties .Diageo ( Guinness) a drinks giant are having a very bad time on the stock market they were £35 a share and in the last two years have become £21 a share due to various affects. The Two Brewers was a Shepherd Neame pub a venue for real ale which is mainly drunk by the older generation who are slowly dwindling. Taking the Brewers on is a choice for the very brave.

And there was me thinking to just chuck 400k at it and give it a go. Oh well.

Pub under the Flyover gets a shock as manager opts to move

Posted on March 14, 2025 by insidecroydon
Locals at the back-street, town centre pub, the Royal Standard, have been sent reeling, and not by an especially strong barrel of Harvey’s, but by the news that the landlord and her team are leaving the pub under the Croydon Flyover next month.

New Standard: there’s sadness and uncertainty over the departure of the Sheldon Street pub’s team
The silver lining, at least for the local branch of CAMRA and residents in Selhurst, is that the much-admired Standard team will be working to re-open the Two Brewers on Gloucester Road.

This is an unexpected, and unexpectedly quick, reprieve for the Two Brewers, which closed in January after its owners, Kent brewers Shepherd Neame, sold the property. Locals feared the worst.

Now, the Brewers, not too far from Selhurst Park and a favourite with Eagles fans on their way to matches, or wanting to drown their sorrows after games, is to have the benefit of one of the most-admired pub management teams in the borough. As well as Winston the pub cat.

Or rather they take drugs instead of booze?
