The Premier League?

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. With all the concern around our potential league survival...is it really worth worrying about? After a decade in the self-styled Best League in the World we're no further ahead and have little chance of finishing any higher than mid-table.
Most of us have experienced relegation (often several times) and apart from the misery of a bad season it's disappointing but really not the end of the world. Of course we wouldn't make as much money but for club like ours it's a case of running as fast as we can to stay in the same place and we're usually only a couple of injuries away from trouble.
I know this looks like, and probably is, defeatism, or maybe just sour grapes, but the wonderland of the PL is largely a triumph of marketing and creative accountancy which will likely be exposed when the big boys get their wish and disappear off into some form of European super league.
Of course if CPFC were to be bought by some mega rich conglomerate who boosted us to a Man City level of preeminence things would be different.

It's not that we are here, or there, or this or that, it's do with the perception of how bent the game has become, with referees consistently awarding the "big" teams with key decisions at moments in games.
I was naïve to think that VAR would clarify all dubious decision making, instead it's become another string to their bow...

It may have been someone on here who coined the phrase "Badge check" when the referee asked VAR for a decision. 😀

in terms of quality of football....the Premier League wins.

in terms of quality of entertainment......its The Championship, every time , for me.

- not destroyed by money and ego's
- no super big money-gap between the top and bottom of the table

- lots of goals
- proper fans

- unpredictable outcomes
- players who speak English....mostly

- us no longer having the smallest stadium in the league
- Locally grown talent on the pitch

- an affordable price, per matchday.
- the excitement of a promotion run.

The English Number Two league is better than the number One league of most European countries. And all the players are of a decent standard.

Typical. We get out of the relegation places just when the prospect looks more enticing.

I think us olduns have had many a great time supporting the team when we’ve been miles away from being a top flight club teddy. Yes we all want to be in the premier league, but I think for proper supporters who want to see palace and not who they’re playing against, it’s not the be all and end all. I can’t lose really, if we stay up great, if we go down I know come August I’ll be looking forward to the new season, maybe more so with its fresh start and all that
Now I know some will say we’ve got no gaurentee of coming back up, look at Luton’s struggles and teams like blunderland, Ipswich and Derby who’ve gone down again to the 3rd tier, well my reply to that is so what? Been there done that as well

Yep. The Third Division used to be quite enjoyable in its own way with some aging players on the way out and younger players trying to make a name for themselves - neither of which really apply now the PL buys in players from all over the world and the ones who play there make enough to retire earlier.
And we had Peter Taylor.

I'm trying to find a peg to hang my hat on, Southampton look to be cut adrift now, after last nights drubbing at home itlooks like a relegation spot is now filled.

I tend to view our position in the PL as -

We stay in the PL because so far every season there have been at least 3 teams with bigger problems than us -Most seasons we see better quality football in the PL (even if its only in parts of games) than we would if we played in lower leagues.

I'm not being fleeced outrageously for my season ticket - I love being in the stadium on match day -Especially when its a full house & the place is rocking & when there are those bits of magic I remind myself that "its only live once".

So overall I am a big fan of being in the PL- But if we were relegated I would still have a season ticket & still enjoy it BUT I would still want us to get promoted & do it all again in a flippin heartbeat -

Remember NYE 1978 watching a 1-1 draw v Orient in the old 2nd division. plenty of standing room - freezing cold - then it snowed - never been so cold Those were the days !

Still loved it though didn’t we, I remember Wrexham away in 1981, s*** team, near the bottom of division 2, s*** journey, s*** hole of a ground and town, Welsh people wanting to tear our heads off and s*** down the hole 😀 foggy, freezing cold and less than a 100 of us in this cage behind the goal, but when Steve Lovell popped up with a late winner right in front of us it meant more than any game in the premier league these days, especially as we hadn’t won away for 18 months

Even the Champions League has a few straw men.

the English Championship may not have the Stadium Capacity of Steau Bucharest ( or Red star Belgrade ) , but our fans have much deeper pockets on match-day. And in football, money talks. Those Champions League clubs struggle to keep their players away from signing for the likes of West-Brom & Sunderland. It is my belief that any average team from the English Championship could regularly give a nasty scare to any minor team from the lower reaches of the Champions league.

from the link below "For domestic games involving FCSB, you’ll pay 15-20 lei/€3-€4 in the Peluzele behind the goals, 25 lei/€5 for the best seats there, and 25 lei/€5 in each Tribuna. Prime seats are 40 lei/€8 in Tribuna''............ie...its as cheap as chips.
