I've told this story before but a friend was summoned to Downing Street when Blair first came to office. It was one of his infamous listening groups. Anyway it became clear during the meeting (Blair wasn't there) that it was just a fig leaf and they had already decided policy and were doing anything but listen.

What sickened her was she knew many in the room and their opinions, yet they all sucked up to a policy she knew they did not believe in. She told the room the policy was wrong and why, she was never invited back whilst some of her colleagues ended up with cushy policy jobs.
