It has been slowly getting worse the more money has influenced the game over the last 3 decades. Our last crop of players who did so well had a bond through religion which helped galvanise the whole team, that and having a fair few English players and Londoners playing; Eze, Olise, Mitchell, Wharton, Henderson, etc. Always helps. When a team is full of foreign mercenaries it loses connection and turns into a franchise club which the top teams have become. Its why big Dan Burn was a hit at the world cup as he seems an ordinary bloke of little skill playing with his heart on his sleeve. Thats all I want. Players appreciating their privelege, and their luck at playing footy for a living and not being jumped up spoilt w**kers. Any player who wants away, get rid of them asap. I would rather an academy player be in the team than Mateta at the moment. (No idea if Sarr is injured or being a dick too).

I wrote something along these lines a few months ago on another social media site. I gave my permission for it to be forwarded to Steve Parish by a mutual friend.

My theme was how although I still loved football, the Premier League was becoming a huge turn off. Rigged in favour of the ' big clubs ' .

There's a certain irony in as much as Palace have been so successful ( albeit in cup competitions ) at the same time as I've grown steadily more disillusioned with league football.

And of course it's that success that have fed those bigger clubs as our players become transfer targets for them.

In all honesty, I have never been less interested in the football than I am right now. It is just boring and flat now. If it were not for my love for the Palace, i really could take it or leave it. Stop start, VAR, faking injuries, all the media bollocks, the big boys raping anybody and everybody to fill every position 3 times over and then players just taking the piss out of clubs that make them. It’s all a bit s*** really.

Brilliant. I saw him a few times at the Players Theatre under the arches at Waterloo Station comparing their Old Time Music Hall show. Great fun.

The beautiful game that we once loved has gone forever!
There is no appetite to fix the very obvious problems all the while the big boys continue to rape and pillage all below them.
The TV companies, the Premier League and the mafia that is the big six are all in it together. They just care about the money rolling in, and the rest of us just keep getting in the way.

There was uproar when the European elite teams tried to create their own super league. However I now feel that they should have sodded off and left the rest of us to get back to a format where a team can aspire to get promoted and have a realistic chance of competing, or a good chance to have a cup run and not get knocked out by the Arsenal third team whose value is greater than most football clubs.
These levels of spending and wages are insane, there is a complete disconnect between football and the real world. How can it be right that a player can earn £300k a week and a nurse can earn around £40k a year?

I believe there is a very simple solution to make it more competitive again, and that is to have a total spend cap for all teams varying by the different divisions. The spend cap is fixed no matter the size of team or resources. It would have the effect of reducing all the inflated costs, from players fees, wages, agents etc. It would take several years to implement, but make the game more financially stable.

I’m sure there are many better ideas on how we can get our game back, and my suggestion is just about the financial aspect. However it’s like we need to start over, get rid of VAR, make European competitions straight forward knockout games, change the offside rule, so that you can’t be offside because you got a big (cock, nose, forehead or toe) the list is almost endless.

But none of this will happen as it endangers the status quo.
