I am not for one minute saying what he said is true, particularly given the source and context, and I am aware of the number of British and other non-USA servicemen who died in their American campaign, but...

Is there any element of truth, even tenuous? He must have been fed this by senior US generals or vets etc. Thus, were the allies tasked with less dangerous areas, deliberately kept back as reserve etc? It would make sense in the context of those nations supplying boots on the ground as some political gesture of unity but with the understanding that our body counts would be low.

However, this is at odds with my understanding of the British military. Barely muzzled at the best of times, but put them in a war zone... Pity the poor buggers tasked with holding their leads.
