The Brexit thread

Evolution often sees missteps along the way which get corrected as their impact is better understood. Maybe this will turn out to be one. Only time will determine that. Nothing is ever going to be perfect when designing a hugely complicated project like the EU but neither does that mean that membership isn’t much better for us than non membership. Our home is in Europe. We belong within the EU, helping to shape and manage it to be equipped for life in the modern world. Not outside pretending we can do better alone and dreaming of past glories.
Well it'll be interesting to see what a Le Pen presidency looks like when it comes to funding the EU.

Some hope.

Brexit happened because they didn't. If we had another referendum next week, there would be no difference.

Never rely on the young.
The youth of today are clearly unhappy with their lot in France and Germany, the two largest net contributors to EU funding by miles. You can see why the right wing in particular point at reducing the funding to pay for domestic policies.

Interesting isn’t the term I would use but there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge first. The right wing tide has turned in Europe and Trump’s defeat yesterday will hasten that reversal. Threatening Ukraine and EU budgets may appeal to some, but enough? If it did happen then some straight talking behind closed doors would probably see a change of heart, if not publicly then quietly in the actions taken.
