Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died from a catastrophic on-pitch collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The video is crazy to watch if you haven’t seen it already.

Despite receiving emergency medical resuscitation and being rushed to the intensive care unit, his condition deteriorated rapidly overnight.

The Spanish Football Federation has suspended all matches scheduled for Tuesday.

I just don’t know enough about Spanish legal proceedings to what could happen with this and whether it could eventually fall under gross negligence or professional negligence.

It could have been mateta on the slab verses the scum.
Football can be dangerous.
A hard shot in the head is dangerous.
The keeper did a bad foul.
I doubt there was intent to kill the guy.
He won’t be feeling very good about this and could end his career.

I agree, there was absolutely no intent to kill.

The problem with body shots is that your body, if hit in the right spot with enough force, it just shuts down without anything you can do abut it. You see it in combat sports where a well placed shot to the body can crumple a fighter to the ground even after they have taken hundreds of shots to the head.

Very sad. I saw the footage and immediately thought of the Mateta injury and (especially) the 82 World Cup Schumacher foul on Battiston.

It is a grim reminder that football still is a contact sport despite the evolution of the game in the last 40 years.

There might come a time, where legal implications might happen on the field of play.

To my mind, Assault, with intent, springs to mind, in this case. Totally reckless

There was an incident a while ago at an ice hockey match where one player lifted his skate, and cut the throat of an opponent, total accident, the opponent died.
There was a call, from some, to charge the guy with murder, that thankfully came to nothing.

As above, this was a terrible accident, similar to the Matteta one, where it is a moment of stupidity/ rush of blood, I'm sure there was no intention to cause the actual outcome in any of these incidents.
