As Bright kept saying, this was all about getting minutes in the legs and practising what the manager has been drilling into them during the week. Apparently, it's been an intense week with everything being done at speed (even the water breaks were only a minute). Lots of practice at [passing forward through the lines. Did it show in the game? First half not really as we didn't get control of the game often enough but much better second half with some neat interplay (also a number of misplaced passes).
Who looked good?
First half - no-one was that good although Eddie did well for his 2 goals. Hughes and, for the most part Ozoh, looked ok as did Mingueza. Adamarola was poor IMO and JRS and Esse ineffective. The 2 Academy defenders didn't disgrace themselves. Mitchell seemed to be AWOL.
Second Half - França looked lively and showed good composure for his goals. Good to see Doucoure getting stuck in. Drakes-Thomas did well as did Benamar. Their link up play was generally good. Canvot looked confident,; Devenny was sloppy to start with but improved. The others, apart from Johnson were ok.
As for Johnson - sorry but as has already been said - even worse than last year.
Well that's my take. I'll leave others to agree or disagree.
BTW, Wharton's absence was because of slight ankle knock
