team for Fredrikstad

They've spent almost as much as us this transfer window (Eur2.9 million), including signing Rocco Shein from the Kitchen Champions League for Eur800,000. I knew it would be all glamour when we entered Europe.

I think Sosa will start. There seems to be a clear distinction between his and Mitchell's strengths, with one being better at defending and the other better going forward. Benitez might possibly start in goal. Other than that, I don't think Glasner will risk changing much. If our usual front three start then we should have too much for them. At this stage of the season, getting minutes in might actually help get players up to 100% match fitness/sharpness for the PL.

Torn.

Given the difficulty of the really tricky away leg, we need to get a decent cushion of goals at home. But...

Low block, late tackles and that game on Sunday..?

I dunno.

I know, I'll leave it to Ollie!

At £30 for a European night at Selhurst I’d hope we’ll be selling out regardless? I’m coming down from Derby hoping it’ll go well and I’ll watch it back like the three Wembley games 😊
Some of us older buggers have waited a long time for this, so I make you right, but I know it means more to some than others

Edouard
Eze Esse
Sosa Hughes Wharton Clyne
Richards Lacroix Guehi (c)
Benitez

— — Subs bench — —
Henderson
Mitchell
Munoz
Riad
Lerma
Kamada (45’ Hughes)
Devenny
Rak-Sakyi (45’ Esse)
Mateta (45’ Edouard)

Opportunity for Sosa, Esse, and Edouard to impress in the first half. Should be a quiet, seamless intro for Benitez, allows Hendo to rest up for the Forest game, Mitchell also saved for Forest.

I can see Benitez being used for at least half of the Conference fixtures if we go deep / all the way, so that Dean isn’t overstretched for domestic games.

5-0

Palace. And a referee who seems to hate us.
Blimey. We have many running down refs during and after a game - but to pre-judge an independent European one before the game, that's a new one!

Also we seem to assume this will be a walk over. It may well be but I sincerely hope we are not chasing the return game on a plastic pitch. Remember we weren't exactly overwhelming against Stockport or Doncaster in the cup, teams that might be on the same level as our Norwegian opponents.

I have nightmares thinking of banana skins and Shakespeare's 'many a slip betwixt cup and lip'

We would lose all credibility and become a laughing stock in Europe if we were to blow this one.

I am in Willo mode for this one. I don’t think it will be easy although we should grind out a result. I’m sure I saw on here that the officials are all from Greece (maybe it was a wind up) but let’s not forget the Forest owner is Greek, has connections high up in UEFA and has form for match fixing.

You are correct. The entire refereeing panel is Greek. Of the two Uefa observers, one is from Italy and the other is from the Netherlands. The panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport was made up of an Italian, a Dutch and a Swizzss arbitrator!!

Looks suspicious to me.

I really want to beat Forest on Sunday, but to lose this would be a horrible thing.

I'd like To think it's early enough in the season to not worry too much about fatigue. but I think OG Will Start with the full 1st team, and hopefully ring the changes once the jobs mostly done. or that'll be the plan anyway.

I expect Sosa to play and maybe Kamada if fit

I'm sure we can be forgiven for being at little suspicious about the refereeing selection, considering the circumstances?!

I just need Willo to confirm the referees will officiate the match with the utmost integrity, and certainly won't show any bias because they're all upstanding members of the community or some s***.

Reading the BBC reporting of today’s press conference a couple of things stick out.

Glasner has praised the commitment of both Eze and Guehi and said everyone has recovered so he will field the strongest team, although there could be one or two changes!

Mixed messages but from the tone of the remarks it seems the direction of travel for both is out of the club, even if they play tomorrow.

Henderson was beside him and also answering questions. I already thought that he was likely to become the captain if Marc leaves and him being beside Glasner hasn’t changed my mind.
