Or playing in a system where he is basically trying to hold the midfield on his own because everyone else is ahead of the ball?

The one game he looked class was Leeds where Timber dropped a bit deeper and Kamada regularly dropped into midfield to close gaps and break up play. Wharton was deeper and could collect from the back line with time to play. Obviously we then ditched that and reverted to keystone cops

Or maybe like several other players he’s just not performing at the moment. The lack of quality around him might be showing as well now
