I know many have said their piece on what they make of our Transfer window whether good or bad on other posts, but I would like to have one place here where everyone gives an honest rating of how they think the window went under certain conditions.

Incomings:
Mingueza - Free
Tomiyasu - Free
Guessand - Loan
Khalaili - 21m
Gozo - 11m
McNeil - Swap
Disasi - Loan
Ahanor - Loan
Chilwell - Free
Timber - 20m
Osario - 2m Loan (26m+add-ons obligation next year)
TOTAL SPEND: 54m on 11 incomings

Outgoings:
Imray - 5m
Lacroix - 52m
Johnson - Swap
Adaromola -.5m
Jemide - .25m
Clyne - Released
Cardines - Loan
Sosa - Loan
Ozoh - 4m
Devenney - 5m
Esse - Loan
Munoz - 22m
(A mass release of younger academy players too long to list)
TOTAL RECEIVED: 89m on 12 notable outgoings

As has been mentioned our failing to find an out and out ready-made replacement for Lacroix which leaves us weaker at the back is reason enough to dock a point off in my evaluation.
McNeil-Johnson Swap IMO although strange is a clever move despite the valuation/on paper quality of each.

Having so many loans could be something that backfires as they are not permanent and won't be here next year, but as of right now it is astute business which freed funds for elsewhere. The best of which initially looks to be Disasi.
Munoz seems adequately replaced by Khalaili.
Chillwell and Guessand returning brings Leadership/experience and familiarity respectively.

All other transfers we can't truly evaluate for one reason or another until much later, therefore obviously the rating of the window is subject to change quite drastically quite quickly.
That being said I think it would be fun to at least get initial thoughts that could be revisited in January, if it turns out to have been a good one, then we may have more confidence and belief in Hobbs and co.
Speaking of which, We have made roughly 35m profit over the Summer transfer window. I can only assume this keeps us well within SCR limits and allows us space to maneuver in January(along with further possible sales of Mateta and Sarr etc.) should this window have failed miserably.

If any information I have provided is incorrect i'm sure I will be corrected, I tried to be as close to accurate as possible while also giving some leeway for variables.

All in all one of our better transfer windows in recent times, at the time of closing not in hindsight!
8.5/10

Good balanced post, I would give the window 7.9, quite a few loans but I like them. Glad Chilwell is back and the permanent signings make plenty of sense to me....

In many respects it’s been a good window. If the scouting was accurate we have improved the all round ability of the squad ,and first eleven choice. Two downsides, first the loss of two class central defenders since january is covered by two one season loans, hoped for more. Second we have to put up with two of our better players and main goal source wanting away. Nothing to be done about that though. Hope they both get on with it and we can be a very good side.

It's an 8 from me.

We kept Sarr and Wharton. Assuming this stays the case past the end of the other windows around the world, I think this was as critical as any of the signings. JPM is still on the books and JSL may well play second fiddle unless he hits his straps in the next few games. This is another positive.

I'd rather have Chilwell challening Mitchell and deputizing where appropriate than Sosa.

Timber is a ball carrying number 8 who could do a box to box role. He could combine both with Wharton and Kamada really well.

I like the look of Khalaili as a successor to Munoz and Mingueza is also a good signing.

Gozo looks exciting as well.

All in all I am less nervous than excited about the forthcoming season.

6 out of 10. We have more depth but a worse first eleven. Defence was a concern going in and is still a concern. Left sided attacker hasn’t been addressed. We lost a key player in Munoz. Replaced him with a very promising buy on paper but time will tell if that was a good move.

We now have squad that all feel about the same level but only half a clear starting eleven.

I don’t get all the “woe is me” stuff on Twitter. This team fixed last year’s biggest weakness, which was squad depth, and did it with good young players that were cheap. It’s a team that will stay in the top 12-15 in the league and will compete in Europe. Thats about all you can ask for at this point. And if JP and Sarr get their heads out their asses and play ball the next 3 months, it may be even better.

I’m feeling a helluva lot better than I did a week ago, I can tell you that.

I wonder if your otherwise excellent assessment is missing one crucial factor: the effect of all this trade on our SCR figure. The rules have changed and we are, in any event, subject to the most stringent version as we are in Europe. I saw in a few places that our SCR was at some 94% at the end of last season. The premier league allows 85%, Europe 70% (something like that, anyway).

I am increasingly convinced that Hobbs and Parish commenced this dizzying amount of trading not with the aim of strengthening the team or squad exactly, but with the aim of putting together a serviceable squad whilst effectively cost cutting to avoid non-compliance with the regulations.

Of course, the club don't broadcast that sort of thing (and fair enough, too) but if that was in fact the challenge faced by Hobbs then I suppose assessing him and the club on how well the team does might be inappropriate?

For all we know, we might crash out of Europe early and finish 17th but yet Hobbs etc could have actually done a great job. We just don't know what his remit was.

I like the optimism but I think you’ve hit on the main unknown and concern right there. We’ve addressed squad depth but do we have enough quality now in the first eleven. Would we have been better bring in a few less and more quality? Time will tell.

No argument there at all. I do think it’s gonna depend largely on what version of Mateta and Sarr we get between now and January. If they pout and half-ass it, we better hope we hit on some of those young guys. If they play like they’re wanting a team competing at the top of the table or for the Champions League to come begging for a transfer in 3 months, I think we’ll be in a good spot.

Keeping Wharton and Sarr is as important as anything. However, I think we realistically know little about the incoming players (Chilwell and Tomiyasu excepted).

My feeling is that the end of the window was chaotic and not managed to any sort of longer term plan. Not sure why we would bring in an 18 year old centre back to give him a bit of experience before he goes to Chelsea, and I am unconvinced that we really know anything about whether Osario is anywhere near PL standard. I was happy to see Timber and Chilwell come in, possibly to provide character, leadership and physicality, though my knowledge of Timber is minimal and based only on what I have read.

My key comment, made in complete ignorance of the reality, is that it felt as if Dougie had a magic touch of wooing players in the longer term and convincing them that Palace would be a great destination for them. It feels as if we are now bringing in players on purely a transactional basis, hence the last minute madness.

I believe we will be in a relegation battle, but it has certainly been an interesting window, and Sage must be given time to shape the team. But in many ways I am not convinced we could have done much better, so I will give it 6 out of 10 despite the relegation worries.

Re the lack of a plan and our complete ignore of the reality, I would have thought/hoped there is a plan, it is just a very complicated one with lots of different variables.

For example, did we bring a year old because he is young enough that he doesn’t have to feature in our 25 man squads for the Premier and Europa league? So that is a way of getting a £40 million left foot centre back without having to pay a huge fee and release anyone? Yes it’s short term, and I hate that it benefits Chelsea but maybe that is where we are in the market. Whilst we don’t benefit financially if we develop a player (like we do with Canvot) we also aren’t stuck with them/don’t make a loss if they don’t fully work out (e.g. Johnson, Esse, Franca, Nketiah… Rob Holding).

It's true loan players aren't ideal and tend to benefit the owner club but realistically could we hold on to an outstanding prospect for much more than a year anyway once the media started their usual mantra about him being too good for a club like ours?
Adam Wharton has been an exception (Blackburn might not agree) but if/when he adds some goals to his game we won't be able to keep him either.

Call me crazy, but I think that keeping Mateta, Sarr, and Wharton – at least until January – offsets the loss of massive loss of Muñoz, assuming those three avoid injury and play with heart. Our depth is improved to a level that Glasner deserved. However, our first-line defense remains weaker, and defense was a strength. I'd be surprised if we finish better than 15th.

I rate the window 8.5 some of the loans are try before you buy so its not as bad as it looks , but we will be looking in January for a CB on permit move I would image , not sure how sarr and mateta will perform , but we may have goal scorers in the new players hope so thats a big bonus 🦅🦅🦅

8.5 for me too. A really good window. I actually don't buy into this argument our first 11 is much weaker, either. There's nothing to suggest Disasi/Tomiyasu/Mingueza won't more than compensate for the loss of Lacroix, while Khalali looks every bit as good as a 30-year-oldMunoz - may just take him a few games. We've bolstered the midfield too with Timber, plus added flair and excitement through Osario/Gozo.

An 8.5 at the very least, for me.

Underwhelming considering we are in the Europa League
