Stupid Media Stories

I don't watch the news on TV, not my thing.

The media complain that people are getting their news from unreliable sources on the internet. At the same time they are now putting up paywalls.

Some people on here complain that I get my news from the right wing Daily Mail well I would read the Guardian if it was free. The Mail is gradually going paywall well they can whistle for my money when they go the whole hog.
The old world we knew is changing rapidly.

Lots of BBC coverage (NOT advertising) and the Gavin and Stacey sheite they're about to broadcast. Months of updates on filming and photos, and am now thoroughly sick of it. I'll never watch more formatted sit-coms and catchphrases.

And there was something about the fairground ride that toppled over coverage, that caught my eye.

Louise Brown (one of the victims), her photo, with the touch of blood over the lip looked like stage make-up. This made me curious, as the photo looked staged.
A bit of reading of other related articles found that she was a regional reporter with the BBC.
She comes across as very reflective over the incident and wishes for good outcomes. A bit like an opportunity to push your CV and up your profile a bit,

I'm sure you missed the sentence where the BBC disclosed she was an employee 😀

A few years back there was a storm in a tea cup because Kleenex decided to rebrand their "Man size" tissues as this was misogynistic. A woman claimed her 7yo daughter had queried the term so she contacted Kleenex. The story was all over the press with right wing journos complaining about about woke etc.

It took me less than 5 minutes to find that the woman worked for an advertising agency, a nice piece of advertising by Kleenex but poor show by the journos who must have realised that this was a stunt.

I think it's me being world-weary badger. Whenever a see a product in a news story , I always wonder "What's the angle on this ?". Even with politics, I question the timing and people involved. The common denominator is predominantly money.

I find it amusing that these media people want me to pay anything to read their nonsense, which is unlikely to have a life of +24 hours.

You may as well use your loaf and try to work things out yourself.

I wonder how they make any money as it is difficult to stem the flow of free stuff appearing on your gadgetry as it is.

😎

Stupid media stories. All of pop culture.

Back in the day, a quiz had questions about Capital cities, poisonous amphibians, and US Presidents. Today we have many tv quizes that you cannot win unless you are familiar with pop culture and all its trashy makey-uppey celebrities.

Q. Who won Big Brother in 2011 ?

duh ...

Pub quizzes too PV. Our local runs one which has become dominated by questions about Super heroes, reality TV and the like. Questions about traditional subjects are greeted with groans but mocking laughter results when you don't know that Bianca Stonking-Trumpet got caught on Love Island getting busy with Sam Six-Pack.
History is the worst where anything before 2000 is met with wailing "I wasn't even born then".

I was doing an interactive G K quiz on Alexa (Amazon echo) going great guns until they asked a question about a soap opera followed by one about a reality TV show at which point I crashed and burned.

The same thing happens on University Challenge the gold standard for G K quizes, far too many silly questions are being included. What's the point in asking a group of really bright students about love island or Top of the pops.

Anything relating to Strictly, 'talent' shows, reality TV with alleged 'celebrities', 21st century 'pop', superhero films and Harry f*cking Potter and I'm completely buggered. Depressingly, I've noticed the last category increasingly creeping in to higher end quiz shows like Only Connect and University Challenge.

While you can select those you see most often you have to live within society. We could all be called racist by someone, when we are merely protecting ourselves from suspect people and their ways of life. Would the diversity advisor think of going onto the Palace terraces or prefer hospitality facilities?
