Strasbourg vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Indeed they were and some of the movement and passing was a joy to behold.
A young vibrant team well coached.
Valentin Barco looked a class act, De Zerbi signed him for Brighton for just under £8 Mill and Rosenior signed him for £8.5 Mill. What a bargain !
Yes. He's the business alright.

A lot to take away from the showing last night. We were architects of our own misfortune. We were beaten because we did not perform as we should. Two bad misses and plenty more missed chances. Team rotation that many have been calling for that really exposed our fundamental problem. We are not a big enough strong enough squad to manage the amount of games we now have coming thick and fast.
We have to re-gather and go again in two and a half days time. That is tough. Very tough.
Our song about UEFA etc is coming home to roost, but for different reasons. UEFA are bleeding the game dry. Any club that starts performing as well as we are doing are being forced to overplay to a dangerous level. Last night was a classic example.
We need to try our best to find composure and balance for the months ahead now. We face a very delicate balance of needing more reinforcement, while at the same time the fear of losing more of our best players constantly hanging over us and heaven forbid even our masterful manager. Not an easy situation as we move up and beyond any historical level our club has ever experienced before.
We have assembled a very good group throughout the club from board, management, coaching and player level. I just hope we can somehow stay together, hold on and find our way successfully through the coming onslaught.

Eze and Olise and Wilf are match winners... and that's what we are missing. Great squad, Yes, young talent 100%, but we are missing that x-factor at the moment.

It sounds weird but you don't need to be the better team to win a game. In days gone by that was often how we would win, but I think we just need a few play crap but still win results... I think that would just help us play with more freedom particularly in front of goal.

Special mention for Mitchell. Plays every game, defensively excellent and working to improve going forwards. Model pro and absolute diamond. Why he's not a shoe in for England beyond me.
summed up my sentiments exactly

Glasner was succinct in his post match interview....'we need more players to score more goals...we can't always rely on clean sheets...'
Over to you Steve.
Whoever chose Esse 14m and Uche 17m (if we had wanted to keep him) has made 2 very bad decisions

Many thought we would stroll through to the next round. Not realistic. What we saw was Glasner shuffling his pack in mind of the amount of games this limited squad has to play in a short space of time. One doesn't need a crystal ball to realise that we are being found out.
Nevertheless, miss the amount of good chances that we continue to miss doesn't make the game any easier.
Manchester United up next. I wonder if OG prioritizes the league, because not starting Wharton, and subbing Mateta and Guehi backfired badly. Perhaps he thought we could ride out the goal advantage. Perhaps he makes tactical decisions because he doesn't have much choice either way as he tries a delicate balancing act.
Pino finds himself in good positions but is another who shoots at the keeper, hopefully he will improve.
Uche and Esse are clearly not in Glasner's plans. Who remembers Franca?

We're on a learning curve. First European campaign for Palace, at whatever level, Palace should not be complacent.
We learnt some lessons last night. But we play Shelbourne next, and we might not even need a point to get through to the next phase. However, this is a great chance to go for it, against one of the poorest sides in the competition.

We should be looking at a top 8 finnish to avoid another round of 2 extra games which is the last thing we need. Looking at the standard of the teams in this competition it should not have been that difficult to achieve this….but….The Shelbourne game comes in a nightmare run of back to back games so it will be a lot more difficult.

We got what we deserved, they took their chances we didn't. Some of our misses were bad luck but mainly poor finishing.

I would question our midfield selection, not sure that Hughes and Lerma is a good pairing.

Let's hope we are not as wasteful against Moan United.

Tbf to Sarr, he actually aimed straight for the middle of the goal, the ball just had so much spin on it, Whartons miss was definitely worse, he should be keeping that down.

Hmm, Esse, Uche, Franca, Ahamada, all supposed to have been attacking midfielders or forwards and not one was given more than a couple of games to stake a claim despite our manager declaring we don’t have enough attacking players. Obviously, Glasner had nothing to do with the signings of Franca and Ahamada, but Esse, Uche?

they've all got talent but they're all either inconsistent or a bit lacking in the team ethic, I'd say Ollie thinks they don't get their head up enough, that sort of thing, but as another poster pointed out we are lacking that bit of magic that we've enjoyed from Wilf, Ebs and Olise. I think Ollie chose the Lerma-Hughes partnership to put the emphasis on defence and just simply for rotation purposes, but they are the weakest permutation out of our four centre mids. Save them for the FA cup if we're at home to a lower league side.

I witnessed Esse in a match on television and he certainly never stood-out for me.
I was somewhat thunderstruck when I heard that we were interested in his services.
