Not sure if the Government are 'underselling' it (I see it more as a case of the wankers waking up to the reality that if the grid is hit by a drone-swarm attack then peoples anger will switch to them) but there is a clearly a real threat in the UK at the moment. Just the US pulling those bombers out of Thetford is proof enough of that.

If a pleb like myself can look at how things are going and pick up on the need for prepping years ago I think that supposedly far smarter people have been calculating risks for far longer.

It's all coming out now because of the mess this and previous governments/civil service/institutions have put the country in and by saying this (though it's been policy for some time just not said loudly in the media) they are arse covering.

They can't then be blamed for having not raised this.

As for security threats like drones, that's just a reality of the battlefield that's coming to us due to the low cost of them due to advancing tech. Our politicians have in their irresponsible idiocy imported the third world and middle eastern foreign conflicts into our country in significant numbers to over-run our security expenditure. Also having had decades of teaching a lot of native people that it's correct to hate this country and its history means we have a huge number of disaffected and nihilistic youth.....Also, like France we have the same problem of a lot of imported or foreign heritage males who also hate this country and are only here for what they can get......Who when the rioting does start will loot and join in.

That and countries like Russia who now have a motivation to harm us as we have decided to fight a proxy war.

A war with zero benefits and only costs.

if civilisation implodes, you need to be on a tiny isolated island with your Prepping supplies. All other people become a threat to your survival. The first place to starve & burn will be London.

The problems emerge when a load of new knackers land onto your nice little island.

When you prep, it isn't just food and drink.

I've spoken in the past about the need not to be isolated and to be networked with people who have your back......Being an island....that's also a problem.

The US pulled those B1 bombers out of Thetford. Fact.
Drone Swarm attacks, launched from trucks and lorries. Fact.
The IRA planned an attack against the national grid, via 'conventional' explosives that would have, had it been successful, knocked out the electric supply for a significant period of time. Fact.

Then we get this warning. From a Government Minister. Making great play of buying the battery-powered radio part.

Sorry, it would be illogical to actually NOT believe that a mass-drone swarm attack is not an actual threat.

I genuinely get the mistrust. And buy fully into the fact of a Government being more than willing to manufacture hysteria to serve its own ends.

But I refer to my first point. Those bombers are GONE.

When it comes to this sometimes ludicrous political prediction game I like to play, I try to stick to a rule that the only person I know who has ever made money from day-trading stocks and shares has. And that is trading actual news. Not charts, not reading tea-leaves, not any of the 101 other ways people try to anticipate the future. Just actual news.

One day those bombers are in Thetford.
Then we get all the theatrics of a few Sundays ago with COBRA meetings and so on, along with Trump saying they had the inside track on this all.
Then we get those bombers gone.

A potential drone swarm attack is the strongest possibility. And then this warning.

anybody seen US series 'Doomsday Preppers'........at the end of each episode they would identify the 'event' that this weeks clown was afraid of. It could be Oil running out, A Carrington event, A russian invasion etc etc.

I would add that a highly sophisticated , hi tech, advanced civilisation is more likely to fail than a simple one. As a Formula One car fails far more often than an old Toyota Jeep.
