Nonsense , a quick check shows the three most violent cities in the USA are Memphis, Baltimore and Detroit which are around 26th, 27th and 30th in size so your assumption is totally wrong, pesky facts

Of course there will be exceptions, particularly in a country like America where there are a large volume of massive cities - how many rural areas make the list of most violent places in America..?
