Statistics show that 'more couples break up on Valentines day than any other single Calendar day'.

And the reason ? its when she finally realises that she is the back-burner backup casual hookup that will never ever get a wedding ring. Tall alpha men like to have many options.......and it often comes out in the wash when they under-perform regarding romantic dinners on the big day of St Valentine. It also happens back in the other direction....some fellas get to realise that they are in a queue for the attentions of their darling. Or simply, even in the absence of cheating - its the realisation that they 'are not the one'.

Its also the day that fellas (or Ladies) in sexless relationships get to return a bit of apathy back to its original provider - often initiating World War Seven. We are not Emperor Penguins or Swans folks. Faithful monogamy is often a mirage.

You have to be pretty dumb to by flowers and gifts on the day that shops double their prices. And to be crammed into an eatery with other couples forced by commercialism to proclaim their idiocy to all around.
