Should Parish resign

Thank God for Parish.

If he went and we were relegated in a season or two none of those waffle merchants would take any responsibility for poisoning the well.

Clubs are abound with situations where important men have been hounded out of clubs by loons and it rarely ends well.

I have no concerns over relegation while Steve Parish is in charge. He only does what is best for the club. I don't think I could or know how to run a PL club.

We somehow landed with a good manager and got our squad to overachieve but will not be here next season. We will need Steve Parish again.

Of course he should not resign! Yes, he may have made mistakes, who hasn't. But he has raised the status of the club to a level that was once unimaginable. There are a lot of PL teams that now fear and respect us. Long may that continue.
The debacle over MG's on/off transfer was, in my opinion, mostly of Liverpool's own making. They seem to think that they can hoover up talent at will and take negotiations to the wire in the expectation that smaller clubs will roll over. When the fog clears I think this will be the general consensus. I feel sorry for Marc but I think he will see that we were left in an impossible position with there being no suitable replacement. His day will come quite soon.
My view is that clubs should campaign for the transfer window to end before season starts. It cannot be good team spirit and stability to have players trying to focus on games but wondering who will still be with the club next week.

Should Parish resign?

Be very careful what you wish for!

There seems to be two camps at loggerheads regarding SP stewardship of our great club. Those that seem to think he can do no wrong simply because he and others saved Palace from the administrators, and there are others that seem to think he is the devil incarnate and is a complete fool!

My personal opinion is that he is probably doing the very best he can for Palace, but like all of us he is prone to making mistakes. There is not one of us (as far as I know) that has ever run a multi million pound football club with all the complexities involved. I have owned and run a medium sized business for a number of years and I can assure you it is bloody stressful, tiring and at times soul destroying, and at other times it is rewarding and joyful to not to have to answer to anyone else. For these reasons I do have a lot of respect for the job that he does.

For me the most important point to remember is that SP is running the club in a way that he believes is sustainable and secure well beyond his tenure (however long that may be)

We must also take into account that he cannot control everything going on around him. He had no control over John Textor selling his shares. This would have massively impacted our transfer market strategy. He would not have been able to commit funds until the new director was in place. He also couldn’t control if and when the Arse and Bin dippers would submit bids for Eze/Mark.

In business you have your best laid plans set out in front of you, but often you have to pivot and go with other options and best case scenario. Which is what I believe happened with Mark last night. I am sure that SP and OG would have had targets that were agreed on. There is also no doubt it was agreed that Mark would not go if those replacements were not in place, and clearly those replacements fell through and SP took the option to cancel the deal for the greater good of the club.

Does this make us look silly, well probably it does but who cares what others think? Personally I think it is a show of strength that we will not be bullied by these supposed big clubs.

The final point of my ramblings is that I do believe we have to be very careful what we wish for. You only have to look at our past two periods of administration. You can also look at mismanagement at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Portsmouth. The list of clubs not being run sustainably is long and other fan bases would love to be in our position. So as much as I would love Palace to be big spenders and flout the rules all in all I am happy with our lot under SP stewardship.
TLDR.

Parish for a stature and is in charge until he has had enough.

Funny thing is I've got an 11 year old who understands profit on a player (FC career mode) and who is ecstatic Marc is staying. As are his mates who came round today.

They are playing clips of angry Liverpool youtubers, they are believing anything is possible this season, they are singing F*ck UEFA in the car (sorry mum and elder sister).

Of course, the future might be tricky, but for some the moment is joyous (yesterday was the first and possibly only time I watched SSN for a good couple of hours straight).

The drama of the window almost typical of family life... it's just another situation no one expected or planned for (not that someone would come in for Marc but all the rest if it).

There is a beautiful honesty in all the mess, everyone trying to do the right thing...

Parish is doing just fine. Trying to manage the best Palace squad ever and the best Palace manager ever.

First, Parish has done a ridiculously good job, bringing Palace success, respect, and admiration from every corner of the football world.

As for the Guehi situation... Parish, Glasner and Guehi all emerged from the negotiations with their integrity intact and the club at its most competitive level EVER.

Finally, let's not forget that Liverpool deserves much of the blame for the "failed" transfer. if they really wanted Guehi, why wait until the last days of the window??? Surely they could have reached an agreement with Palace 6-8 weeks ago, contingent upon our finding a replacement that suited Glasner and Parish – and allowing us time to hunt for him.

Nice to see the new 100 % that fans have responded with thoughtful posts have given him.

How long did it take for Mr A. Ferguson to get a knighthood for services to football ?

I wonder how things would change if/when we finish, say, 6th this year??

OG may want to stay and build.
He may and if he does who knows how far we can go? The football world has changed but look at what Brian Clough achieved at Derby and Forest. Of course that's not to say we'll win the European Cup like he did but we could still be highly successful.
Sport may be about winning but not totally; there's also excitement and enjoyment and OG has brought both.
Football may be big business but it's also a game; people go out to play it so let's enjoy the game.
Sermon over.

No but he should take a seriously long look at how he handles Palace, particularly at transfer times and admit he needs help because he's useless at it.
Why he gets complete control of the club whilst his three stooges sit there doing f*** all and reap the rewards of Glasner’s, the players, the staff and us fan's graft is beyond me.
Make improvements Mr Parish and if you cannot, then consider your position.

The Guehi debacle seems like a car crash from the outside, with poor pre planning to find a replacement. It was obvious to all that a bid from Liverpool was incoming and if it did, MG would want to go for it.

However, now the dust has settled, with the introduction of Pino, Uche & Canvot the overall squad looks stronger than it did at the end of last season. My only concern is the impact this has had in MG and the possible ripple effect on the squad (as reported in The Guardian).

The international break has come at a good time with opportunity to clear the air conversations. Both Parish and Glasner strike me as good man managers so hopefully we can make Marc happy and motivated until January at least. If so, I’m certainly very excited about how far this current team can go with Ollie leading us - a top 6 finish and Conference League win is not unrealistic. If we can get there, the additional prize money will offset the Guehi loss and who know what Glasner feel.

All in I feel Parish has messed up with this but his overall contribution to the rise of Crystal Palace cannot be understated. He has plenty of credit in the bank.

Should Parish resign? Yes definitely, the chump! What did he ever do for us, eh eh? Ta ta Steve, and don't forget to close the door behind you mate, there'll be no stand in your name pal!
Right, who's up for the job?

I accept that Parish didn’t cover himself in glory with the Guehi situation on this occasion but some of that was down to the craziest window for years with inflated prices for average players. We identified targets but most were outside our price range. Parish was as open as he ever is about our finances so it was clear that to bring in the 3 players Ollie wanted we had to get as much as possible for Eze and spend wisely. We now have those 3 players.
We were unlucky that the guy we originally bought to replace Guehi did his cruciate in and is still not back. That meant we had to balance what we could get for Guehi, minus what we were due Chelsea, with what was available out there in a crazy market with inflated prices. Parish tried right up to the deadline and beyond to make that happen but in the end couldn’t do it so Guehi had to stay. Not the perfect window, not his greatest success, but without Dougie or his replacement to carry the workload, the man did his best and I for one salute him.

He has done a fantastic job, made some mistakes as we all do, no one is perfect. Cant see him resigning as he is Palace through and through, its more likely he is booted out by shareholders take over etc

Those investors not being involved, as far as we know, might be a blessing in disguise. Americans with little understanding of the club's requirements would only confuse the issue. Beyond handing over loads of cash, which in our case seems to be against all sorts of rules, it's hard to see what involvement they could have.

I guess they provide financial security for the business. We’re not going to do a Simon Jordan while they’re investing in the business. From their side they expect Parish to run the business in a steady way, growing their investment over the longer term without too much risk. Beyond that their only value is if they see improving the ground as an investment worth putting extra cash into. Our new man has history in that regard do we can but dream….
