Shooting at the goalkeeper

Something our strikers seem to specialise in but last night Wolves second goal was praised by the co-commentator, don't know who it was, because the striker "did what he should and shot at the keeper".
There are a few theories about why it happens including power over placement and target fixation which is given as a reason goalkeepers wear colourful shirts to make themselves more obvious but reasons aside is it really what strikers "should" do?

Depends what you're comparing it to. If the alternative is the side netting or Row Z because they are trying to do something fancy, I'd rather they hit it at the keeper. Make sure someone is in the box for any follow up.

My take is that anything outside the box that is hit with as much power as possible is aimed at the keeper. Closer in or struck with the inside of the boot it’s aiming away from the keeper.
