Semi Final Match Thread

Sarr was immense, he has been improving for us all season as he settles into the club and his understanding with the other players develops (Muñoz, JP & Wharton in particular).

He is proving to be a good ‘finisher’ and now has eleven goals for us this season and is scoring some extremely well taken and self made goals. He also has six assists for us and his set up for Eze today was superb. I watched his first goal on MOTD and it looked even better on tele than in real life - it was further out than I had thought and was struck so precisely and so well that Martinez stood no chance. Coming so soon after the missed penalty I think that really settled us down and was the pivotal factor in our win.

MotM for me today (although they were all superb!) with two goals and an assist.

He was excellent. I looked up Olises's record for Palace and he scored 16 in 90 games. Whilst wishing we still had him and not saying Sarr is better - his contribution is admirable.

This!

What a great day and tremendous performance. Completely dominant. Absolutely in charge.

I have never felt so confident watching a game that we were going to win it. They could not lay a glove on us.

And we missed a penalty, a very good Mateta goal disallowed and a really very special open goal total ball miss from Mitchell. So it could have been 6. And Sarr had good chance for a header. So that is 7 chances / moments before you get to a half chance for Villa that might have led to a goal.

So in summary we used up no luck yesterday. We turned up and powered through.

Absolutely ecstatic

Still surprised that JMPs goal wasn't allowed. Surely there wasn't enough in that contact

From a long way back it look like a 50/50 and a super cool finish. Once they disallowed it with no VAR intervention I'd assumed fair enough

Could not believe it when I watched it back when I got home. Also absolutely every commentator / pundit said it was the wrong decision. Konsa kicked Mateta!!!!

I was wondering why there was no VAR on it. Why was that?

Like all of you, still buzzing this morning. As JPM would say….
FANTASTIC!!!

Looked through numerous Villa fan base sites this morning …and credit where credit is due…they were incredibly gracious about our players, the amazing atmosphere we created and our overall team performance.

So, I guess another big day out to come. Costing a small fortune this Palace adventure…but worth every penny.

Enjoy the weather, have a beer on me and rest up…we’ve got a final to look forward to🤩

Quite clearly OG has improved all the players in his charge. I must say that they appeared at home on the larger Wembley pitch, the front 3 in particular had acres of space to gallop into.

This was one of the great performances not just of the season but of our history. It was not just the quality of the goals and the football but it was the sheer desire to win. It felt like even if Emery had driven their team coach onto the pitch the Palace players would have thrown themselves in front of it. Not one player had a bad game and 5-0 would not have flattered us. It's time for us to finally get our name on a big trophy.

I've seen Villa fans saying their team were just not up for it, but I don't believe that. I think the issue was that tactically Emery was outdone by Glasner. Palace seemed to sit 10-yards deeper meaning they couldn't play balls behind the backline for their forwards to chase onto. Without that option they seemed bereft of ideas. Glasner also talked about our front three shutting down their holding midfielders meaning often their defenders had nowhere to go and spent long periods passing backwards and forwards among themselves. The one thing I was surprised about was that Onana didn't start. Historically we've struggled against big and imposing midfielders and I was worried he might dominate our pairing, but for whatever reason he didn't play.

Watching all the clips and videos last night, did anyone else notice Eze, immediately after he scored just stood there motionless and expressionless for about 15-20 seconds before the huge grin broke out as his teammates jumped on him to congratulate.

Was he stunned with disbelief that it went in, or just enjoying the magical moment of his first ever Wembley goal? I guess we'll never know!

He scored his first goal at Wembley just a month ago for England

Maybe he was thinking, "Right. That's it. I never want to leave this club".
His smile makes my wife get a bit flustered.

I was like is the goal disallowed or something why there was no celebration so I didn't celebrate for those seconds 😅
