There is no point in sacking him, until a replacement is lined up, which I am sure is being sought now. The alternative of having the defence coach McCarthy in charge as temporary manager is a frightening thought.
No, the frightening thought is NOT having McCarthy in charge, and leaving the job to the French buffoon to finally finish the nightmare, maybe he can give Wardy a buzz for a temporary stint for help.

You have 'Nailed your colours to the mast' on this issue.
The overall view of those with whom I had communication last night was that a change needed to be made sooner than later.
I always nail my colours to the mast, whether it was Vieira, Glasner or Sage, three poor managers.

This was a bad day, nothing compares to that dire crap...even the 9-0 was more fun....dont know how its the managers coaching that has our stupid centre backs letting osula to run between them and score? what does annoy me is we have a lump of a forward in JSL cross the poxy ball to him.
Liverpool goalie Bruce G. told me once that Palace was the most/best offensive team at Anfield that season, but eaked at the back and they scored at every opportunity.

Utter madness, we will be adrift at the bottom, procrastination is the last thing we need, or Parish (who i like) doing his Nero impression.
Adrift do you think before you wright . We have only 2 lge games left . Unless the rules have changed and we are not going to get 10 point deduction and they all get 6pts from there games . Christ we get it you hate him dont make up impossible scenarios to make your point

To any 'Sage' voices here; can someone please explain how any new manager is going to stop our defenders making basic errors?

Disasi essentially peeled away from the Newcastle player he was marking to allow him a free header.

Newcastle's disallowed goal was a carbon-copy of the Thursday goal; the back three lost a runner who scored across our keeper. We learned nothing there and was saved by the flag.

Canvot scored an own goal against Weed.

Against Forest we gave them literally half-a-dozen free headers.

Those four games are the story of the whole season. Even the games where we picked up points, the opposition were wasteful against us.

We are failing at the basic stuff; tracking runners and marking. It's not a system-dependent issue. At least our system doesn't require Sarr and Mateta to score and Sage has a 1.9pt per game record.

We have to at least attempt change if nothing improves but I can't see how a new broom changes our shambolic, individual performances in defence. I can understand bringing in someone like Tony Pulis as a defensive coach but we still have Tomiyasu and Riad out and everyone else aside from Mitchell is making mistake after mistake after mistake. How does firing Sage fix that?

My order of preference for a new manager

1) Thomas Frank
2) Kioran McKenna
3) Sean Dyche
4) Gabby Logan
5) Willo
Can you imagine the pre match team talk in the dressing room.....'' In conversation with a learned gentleman last night, apropos todays opposition, I am informed that they play a superior brand of football and that teams struggle to play against them. And for that reason the level of optimism in the Willo household last night was not dissimilar to that poor chap on the Titanic that first spotted the iceberg that did for them - I fear we are about to be sunk ''

It’s what you have said further down. The back middle 3 can’t do it if those in front of them continues to give the ball away / don’t track back and defend. Sage’s tactics are it seems to press the opponent’s defence rather than hit teams on the break. I’m afraid we don’t have the quality players to set us up to do this. We aren’t Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and a couple of others I’m afraid. Hence we get beaten or like Forrest match get lucky with them missing chance after chance. Sage needs to change now or we are doomed!

I think the point is that there are doubts that Sage can solve the defensive issues.

So logically, unless everyone is happy to see these mistakes continue to be played out every game, bringing someone else in could take steps to mitigate the issues. Starting with tactics. If the general consensus is that 3 at the back and wing backs pushed high upfield is what's hurting us, I would expect a new coach to take steps and change it.

Essentially, as a team, we are too open and easy to play against. I take your point about the limited choices Sage has defensively, but it's not just the defence that is the problem in my opinion.

As a man of articulacy opined to me this morning, the overall issues are "Multi-Layered" and in terms of the team there are structural and tactical short-comings which need to be addressed. He was focussed on the collective and not just the defence.
