Yes, half the player he was is still twice the player that either Khalali or Mingueza have been for us. I still hold out hope for Mingueza if he gets a run. Khalali doesn’t look like a professional footballer. He’s awful at everything. Maybe he will transform under a different manager but he just doesn’t look up to it
Apropos Khalaili he has arrived from the Belgian League, with which due respect is not as challenging as the PL. He has been thrust into a team which is suffering from 'Acute performance dysfunction' and perhaps this is not doing him any favours.
I accept he has been somewhat disappointing but he might improve if team fortunes are revived.

What it means is the the management became complacent and took their collective eye off the ball - every season presents a new challenge, they (and the fans) have been lulled into a false sense of security by a few trophy wins. Fact is, this isn't the same side of 2 seasons ago - one of the chief architects behind that success departed and has been replaced by a far inferior impersonator. Same goes with the players.
One really has to be on the ball to meet the challenge and little by little it has slipped away. Not unsurprising given the time span and constraints the club operates under.
This article points out the bleeding obvious.. we are easily the worst side in the division at present. And maybe also would be terrible in the Championship. Something needs to change and fast.

Whatever the quality of the squad they should be able to do things like basic work rate. The stat that stood out for me in that was we avenger the fewest number of sprints in the premier league. In other words we are being out run and out worked by every other team. That isn’t a matter of talent, it’s one of discipline, motivation and professionalism all of which we lack under Sage.

Khalaili is what you get for 20 odd million in today's hyper inflated market. The recruitment office is doing a poor job.
Hard to disagree with your second sentence. I look at Munoz who also came from Belgium and cost under half of what Khalali did so it is possible to find players from lesser leagues who can perform.

I’d also say our most successful signing this summer so far (I admit that is a low bar) is Chilwell who cost nothing.

I believe Munoz cost just shy of £7 Mill and he was signed from Genk in the Belgian League.
He made his debut in the 4-1 defeat at Brighton, and was booked, he was also booked in his next game, the 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea. He flourished when results improved under Glasner who joined when we were 15th in the PL, finishing that season in 10th place.

The ascent has taken 13 seasons. The descent will be quicker, and a fall even quicker than that. How fast do you envisage change coming, and from where?

Sage needs to leave sooner rather than later. Quite simply, he doesn't have the experience or the proven ability required to manage at this level. I had serious reservations about his appointment from the outset, and everything we've seen since has only reinforced those concerns.
He had fewer than 100 professional games as a manager when he took over. How could the board possibly have thought that was enough experience for a job of this magnitude? I appreciate that he did a good job at Lens, but beyond that, what has he actually achieved to justify this appointment?
My biggest concern is that the longer he remains in charge, the further into trouble we're going to find ourselves. We need to stop the rot before it's too late. This is about damage limitation now, and we need someone who knows this league, understands what is required and has the experience to steady the ship and salvage what remains of our season.
The board needs to accept that this appointment isn't working and act before the damage becomes irreversible.

But if you're saying that he is what you get for that money, how can they do better? Surely you're suggesting they should have more money to spend which is on the people above them.

Yes this is a given, but I noticed under both Vieira's and latter day Hodgson's sides a lack in fitness compared to the opposition. I had the impression that Glasner had them working a bit harder but this maybe just the impression watching Munoz dash up and down gives. Certainly under Sage there is a flabby laziness that needs addressing. I recall an interview with Steve Coppell from way back when in reference to his side the gist of which was that they wouldn't be beaten when it comes to fitness. In contrast look at Wharton and Kamada, both knackered after 60/70 minutes...

Yes. Why doesn’t Chilwell strat?

Dowie's team always seemed very well trained and gouged out points by being fitter than the opposition.

I certainly remember Munoz in the first 4 or 4 months and thinking how weak he looked. Then, Bingo. Actually the same can be said for Guehi. Lacriox for Anderson maybe as well. As I said before, all these valuable, and for us, excellent players started out with question marks. As somebody already posted, by May this year i was happy with Canvot as a Guehi replacement. This whole Sage in or out discussion makes me dizzy. Seriously, has it not always been the case that certain players &/or combinations thereof simply work for us. Apart from King Kenny & Olise nobody has left us,either on their terms or ours and gone on to be be a better player. Given, won a few more trophies though. So, here we are, new sqaud, new trainer, injuries, childish strops. For me though it is all about learning from your mistakes and with as much gererosity as i can muster, we are simply not doing that at all. I forced myself to watch MotD mainly to hear what was said and apart from the obvious back post failings, Danny Murphy suggested that Canvot should maybe jump when confronted with a cross. I have to think that this novel approach is drilled into him during training so what can a trainer do in a match when a player simply fails to do this. So now, no, I am not happy with him as a Guehi replacement albeit that aspect of the latter's game was also not great. I digress, so the answer is, beats me!! All those aspects mentioned above plus tactics, mood, confidence and so on. Any replacement will be hit or miss but i suppose as Chairman, Board, that's what you sugn into. Oh, and, I notice that some match reports indicated that the team was displaying that it was still behind Sage but those Guardian stats were pretty damming regarding distance covered/sprints etc. I would have thought that as we usually only have about 25% possession and seem to conceed 60+ touches in our penalty area per match our plaers would be running more that the oppo; albeit in circles and up their own rear.ends.

1 We need to change the manager today. Sage, despite being a dealt a poor hand by Parish and the Mateta and Disasi sendings off, has still played ridiculous tactics. We need someone competent, I just don’t know exactly who. Maybe we need to look into Europe again. I almost wish someone like John Salako who always speaks intelligently about tactics could take over.

2 We need to buy two excellent defenders and one excellent midfielder in the January window. Circa 180 million. If they can be found and persuaded to help our SOS.
