Reform

No one in opposition and this far away from an election can give exact costing details, as you know full well.
The Tories had 14 years in power.
In that time that allowed this country to be flooded with immigrants, did not enforce Brexit properly and the final nail in the coffin, COVID.

I voted for them, but the country needs a radical change of direction. The Tories had their chance, and they have no chance of winning the next election. The only mission for anyone on the right should be to remove the current administration by voting for a party that can actually win.
I would expect a party to provide information as to the financial cost of the policies they are presenting at this moment in time. One would expect any serious party to state how policies are going to be funded.

Apropos the "14 years of power", one keeps perusing and hearing this mantra. Admittedly we erred on certain matters but we kept being re-elected ! We have taken a hard look at where we were culpable and why we lost the trust of the electorate. The 'Policy Renewal Programme' is underway.

What policies are the Tories "presenting at this moment in time"?

We are in the midst of a 'Policy Renewal Programme', the biggest policy review programme for our party in 50 years.
Over recent weeks, we have received thousands of contributions from members and others. It will come as no surprise that immigration, the economy, housing, education, energy, and defence featured heavily. We are now looking for more detailed submissions that help us understand the problems holding the country back.

In the coming weeks, we are focusing on a set of themes which will be central to the country’s future. These respond to the contributions we have received so far and take into account our experience whilst in government. The foundation policy work is in full swing.

We will continue to come forward with policies, to hold this disastrous Labour government to account and to challenge Reform's fantasy economics.

If you are wondering why Reform support is growing apace, just read the recent posts here by the Tory Willo and Silvertop on the Left.

Surely not the same Reform who were fully in favour of NOT retaining the 'Two-child Benefit Cap' and not one of their 4 MPs bothered to vote on this subject in the Commons recently.
It is our job to now hold Farage to account and give him the kind of scrutiny that he has enjoyed not having.
His performance this morning when quizzed by Laura Kuenssberg about the cost of his policies was underwhelming !

In contrast to Reform we are in the midst of serious, grown-up thinking over the next months and years to formulate a policy platform that can truly address the big challenges that our country faces, to put to the British electorate.

The unions destroy Labour - their OWN party.

Internal schisms over Europe destroy the Tories.

It has always been or so it feels.

Thus midway through your 14 years you abruptly transformed from pragmatic sensible Remainers to populist Leavers. You excised the talent, handed over the keys to the asylum and gave us the catastrophe of the last 5 years.

Presentation of sensible costed policies is the least of your party's issues even if that is what they achieve. Trust is lost given the 180 degree leap to Brexit for what must now be viewed as wholly short term gain. People can now see that loony fringe that those of your party with better sense have concealed in the attic for decades. And given the damage to the economy caused directly by Brexit and by the dummies put in charge, folk now believe that Labour are better custodians of the public purse.

The latter, in particular, was some achievement!

We will have to agree to disagree on the subject of Brexit.
Apropos the "Damage to the Economy", two words 'Rachel Reeves'.
Serious damage would occur if, heaven forbid, Reform are the next government.

Whilst your objectivity over the populist confidence trickery of Reform and Farage is appreciated it isn’t that long ago that I recall you meeting him at the Party Conference and describing him in effusive terms. It isn’t that long ago that the Tory right were populist themselves and selling Brexit to the gullible.

So if they ever are to be believed again and stand any chance of regaining some influence, let alone power, they need to put clear space between themselves and anything that has even the slightest aroma of those days. Change is indeed needed but it must be radical, accept the past mistakes and set a path which can be believed. The right must be cut adrift.

The most radical of all, but one which would capture the imagination, would be to admit Brexit was a mistake, blame the right for it, and promise a closer relationship with our friends in Europe to be best prepared for the troubled times we live in.

If EU/US tariffs are higher, plus the charge for re-entry into the market and the EU expecting the UK to defend them, it's not going to be worth it. If Europe has a conflict, it's definitely not going to be worth it - which you seem to be suggesting.

I didn’t suggest that the Tories should campaign to rejoin! That comes later. Only to build a closer relationship. If Europe has a conflict then we will be involved for sure. We respect our NATO obligations.

Probably best bring in conscription and a massive tax hike then. That'll be popular. I would agree with massive defence spending but I don't think many others would. I wouldn't buy American however.

Over the years I have attended a plethora of Conservative meetings and I recall back in the day (Prior to Brexit), the subject would always gravitate towards Europe, with members 'Frothing at the mouth' at being member of the dastardly EU.I admit I was one who was often in a state of apoplexy on this matter.

If there was another referendum I would NOT hesitate to vote 'LEAVE' yet again.
On this issue Farage and I are in unison !!
I have made my view on this issue perfectly clear, I will now concentrate my efforts on criticising the Reform party.

Conscription is probably unnecessary in the age of technical warfare. Higher taxes aren’t and are inevitable no matter who forms the next government. I wouldn’t buy American for the next 3 1\2 years. After that it should be ok again.

Until those in the Tory Party who think as you do wake up and accept that they carry the responsibility for putting us in this mess nothing is going to change for them. The hole will just get deeper. Blaming Farage for being populist isn’t nearly enough.
