Raheem Sterling

Sterling is on big wages, but Arsenal managed to get him on loan only paying a third of them, which is £100k a week.

That would certainly be within our budget.
In which case I'd rather we gave £50k of it to Mateta and find someone cheaper as an option.

Money is not the issue, 100k a week for six months is no problem, the question is, has it gone long enough for attitude to say, i will show them, if he is keen then you wont get a better player, available, if he can find some of his old form, if you don't ask you will never know, i would rather a proven loan than another Esse or Uche.

Well, obviously no-one wants another player like Esse or Uche who won't get picked. But Sterling has only proven a failure as a loan. I doubt that was because he wasn't keen at Arsenal but would be at Palace

Was just gonna say this. Sterling on loan has been a stinker !

Clickbait are claiming that we are battling Leeds United to sign Sterling. I highly doubt it.

Leeds are in trouble so there won't be a rush to sign for them from quality players. Sterling may cost a lot in wages but may just dig them out of a hole, or not. I can see for them it's a gamble worth taking.

I just don't think we need him, I would rather sign a long term youngster.

If we're going to sign a Chelsea winger to sit on the bench, then I'd prefer that its Tyrique George. Sterling was awful at Arsenal, so I struggle to see how he'd suddenly be better with us after so little game time. He can no longer beat a man, he can't cross, he doesn't pass, he can't shoot, and he's on loads of money. Plus Arsenal and Chelsea fans were moaning about him being lazy. He needs to move abroad or retire.

so Strasbourg it is then - Todd Boehly can text himself to get this sorted.

We paid that for Chilwell last season. For the amount of time he played, wasn't really worth it. Paying big money for has beens that can't get a game for their own club, isn't the policy now.

So another unproven player to go with the other unproven players

Me too.

I struggle to believe there is any truth in this Sterling chat.

Its not about form or fitness or game time, its about attitude, if that is right he will rediscover his former quality, if his attitude is poor he won't.

Some posts keep popping up even when he is 89 years old I suspect (like the Zaha thread) to hear his name as a possible signing Oh dear!

He was once a great player, but that was a few years back now. It is not impossible that he'll suddenly rediscover that form, and if he joined wouldn't that be a fine thing, but recent history points against it. It's one of those you file under 'hope'. Leeds are in a more precarious position and so are likely to be more willing to take a swing and cover a greater share of his wages, and perhaps a relegation dogfight might kickstart Raheem. Unlike Grealish, who seemed desperate to be playing more, you don't get the impression Sterling has that same desire left in him though, or otherwise why is he still at Chelsea?
