Rachel Reeves

Rachel Reeves and bright idea aremutually exclusive.

Keynesian economics didn't so much fail as it was shown not to work in all scenarios. In the 1970s, when the U.S. economy suffered stagflation, a combination of inflation and slow growth, Keynesian economics had no answer on how to tackle the problem, leading to a decline in its popularity.

Apparently her typing is better than yours.

The pre-conceived invention of a "£20 Billion blackhole" was used to justify her increases in employer NI contributions. The Economy is now in 'Pitchy Seas' because of her decision to saddle businesses with £40 Billion of new taxes in addition to expensive workers rights legislation.
An actual £20 Billion 'Black hole' has opened up since Reeves disastrous budget.
The so called 'Pro-growth' chancellor inflicting additional taxes on businesses - This is economic illiteracy.
Companies are cutting jobs at the fastest rate in more than 4 years as a result of the Chancellor's budget.

I shall be in the air when Reeves presents what has the appearance of an 'Emergency Budget' but will no doubt be in contact with an array of people when I arrive at my destination.

So you have proof of that.Your post shows the old Tory ways of just smearing the other side a mixture of lies and self justification that was firmly re butted at the ballot box. This is not a worthy attempt at opposition it is just the death wail of a dying party,at least Reform have fresh ideas and some sense of reality. The Tories really need a period of self searching not sesquipedalian words in place of straight language which you are prone to do.

I fully accept that the Conservative 'Brand' has been seriously damaged and a defeat at the ballot box was inevitable. We have to regain the trust of the British electorate and have to earn the right to be heard once again.
The party has to re-set and re-build and only last week we launched a 'Policy Renewal Programme' and invited members to help shape our future policies.
As part of this renewal, we are focusing specifically on values and principles, because policy must be rooted in both. It’s often when our policies stray from our core principles that we face challenges. So aligning values, principles, and policy is essential.
The Conservative Party’s values and principles are the foundations on which our policies are built and the reasons many of us joined the Party. They unite us as members and guide our direction.

Finally if you wish to defend the mantra of "£20 Billion Black Hole' that is a matter for yourself, it has been debunked by a number of sources.I am hugely critical of the current government and smear them with every opportunity away from HOL, often resorting to 'Florid articulation' , disobliging comments and fustigation.

Time now for me to concentrate on the 'Football' debates which was my 'Raison D'Etre' for joining HOL all those years ago ! I make rare forays into the political discussions, I do spend a great deal of precious time on such matters away from this esteemed site !

I'm with Willo on this. There may be inherent issues within the Conservative party, but it's difficult to find anything positive to say about how Labour have handled their running of the country since they won the election.

From education through 'net zero' to the economy and a pantomime attempt to win over Trump, Labour has shown absolute, political ineptitude. How anybody can find positive things to say about the sad state of our country beggars belief.

We are in dire straits and this government is making things worse.

This 22 billion black hole has been rubbished by the OBR who our resident chess champion likes to hold up as THE authority on the economy. No doubt she will mention it many times when she speaks tomorrow as she tries to repair the damage she did last October. But I think it's wearing a bit thin now even for some Labour MPs.

There never was a black hole until Labour decided to throw money at the public sector without demanding an increase in productivity.

The present government are doing better than the Tories ,under them we had lies, printing "funny Money" flights to Rwanda that cost £5 hundred million and never took off. Trips to Barnard Castle which apparently is better than a visit to an optician, lock down p*ss ups in Downing street, deserting the beaches on D-day commemoration. Labour are collecting the money to make the N.H.S. work They are putting money into pothole repair and have beefed up the border patrol all in a few months.I am chuffed to have voted Labour and intend to do the same next election.

I admire your chutzpah. 😀

With respect Beaky, you do realise the government is looking into sending migrants to the Balkans in exactly the same way as the Tories Rwanda plan. Starmer, Reeves, Rayner have received multiple tickets for football, theatre, concerts, holidays, clothes, even glasses (without a visit to an optician) etc. They are taking money from pensioners winter fuel allowance, disabled and vulnerable people. Migrant arrivals are 34% up on the same period compared to 2024 despite a supposed beefing up of borderforce.
I don't see anything Labour have done to warrant a satisfied endorsement.

Beefed up the Border Control? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Trying to pick a favourite out of this Labour government and the previous Tory one is like trying to pick a favourite Palace striker out of Cenk Tosun and Yaya Sanogo.

Just easier to call them both s***.

There are major differences between the Balkans and Rwanda, for Rwanda you need lots of sun cream. I would enjoy tickets just like her ,never refuse a freebie,it is only wrong if it is a bribe.Unlike the Tories they have put money into border force instead of cutting their money.

You seem an expert on Border Force and its funding, pray tell how you claim to know so much. How do you know the freebies were not a bribe or perhaps an incentive to assist in certain areas? Didn’t the FA supply tickets to Taylor Swift and for 2TK to watch football about the same time as the Football regulator was being discussed? Something the FA were not in favour of. Still probably pure coincidence
